It looks like the VA is trying hard to get a whole new generation of Vets to be frustrated with them. Many veterans with the promise of the new GI Bill have headed off to school. The new benefits which rivals the GI Bill of WWII was a beacon of hope to many young people, a chance to go to school and not have to hold down a full time job. The VA assured Congress that it was ready, sadly they were not. Please cut and paste the following link, maybe time to ask your member of Congress to look into this. Well it looks like the VA was unhappy with the well deserved bad press they have been receiving.
The VA Secretary released a statement late yesterday stating that those veterans who have not been paid as of yet can receive a special one time emergency payment starting on Oct 2nd by visiting a regional VA office. Here is the link to the press release.
Remember you get BAH at the married E-5 rate for the zip code your school is in. I would look it up and print the page and take it with me to the Regional VA office, in case they are "confused".
I use the GI Bill top up to augment my tuition assistance. I switched to the 9/11 bill as soon as I was able too. I made my first request after signing up and making the switch about a month ago. The payment took a little longer than normal to arrive but I got it within about 20 days of applying for it. So at least one satisfied customer.
I applied via the VA online site, and received an approval letter fairly quickly. Just enrolled in a program, but classes don't start until mid-Oct. I have no idea how the housing and book stipend is paid, the website has no specifics, and you can't get a live body at the help line. So...we'll see, but I bet they get it together.
