I am curius there is a post on this forum by DaveRabbit, which is a bunch of mutilated animal pictures. The is an approval of the post by Rob Rodriguez, forum administrator. I dont see a point to this being posted; obviously it is over my head. Someone help me to understand this post. Lastly, What Would William Wells Do?

I wonder if Rob has actually even read more than the first post of Dave's threads?

Seems the first post is a memorable dedication to the military and every subsequent post is conspiracy-kook laden with nothing what so ever about the military.

Rob- do you not see the hidden agenda?

Those pictures are ridiculous. There is no point to them. Dave Rabbit might be patriotic, but he comes across as a moron-- simply because of those disgusting photos, never mind his commentary. There is no point, and therefore no counterpoint. I hate censorship, but this guy has to be reigned in. I don't read any of the threads that Mr. Rabbit has posted on anymore, and I can keep it at that, but I can't believe that moderators think this is appropriate for this site. The thread is "Radio First Termer Iraq Anniversary Show – Coast Guard" on P/CP, if you want to judge for yourself, it's graphic (i.e., pictures of a "mutilated cow rectum").

I guess I would oppose censoring the post. I just will not post on the thread because: Idont see the topic of debate; and I dont want to perpetuate the post.

Now I do suggest that Mr. Wells would post in response.

I went ahead and removed the pics. I am not a fan of censorship, but those really had nothing to do with the topic. They were deemed offensive by several members, and I am pretty sure Rob didnt give him permission to post that here.

tony,

respectfully I disagree with your action. If the pictures were deemed offensive by several members, why dont they, not go look at them anymore? Why should the moderators get into what is offensive or not offensive? why should the moderators remove or alter the post of others? My point is, I think the members here have a responsibility to ignore what they deem as offensive or ridiculous.

While I respect your opinion to disagree, I will reply with the following to justify the action taken. You felt the topic was important enough to not only start a thread to address the bahavior, you questioned not only the poster, but specifically the pictures that I removed. I have nothing to indicate this member was allowed to post anything like that here.

These forums are not a members personal blog where the member can post anything they wish. There is a seperate blog function om mil.com for that purpose.

That post in particular, violated several clauses in the terms of service.

The post had nothing to do with the topic, and was a violation of 6(i).

The pictures posted were determined to be "vulgar" and "offensive" in violation of 6(ii).

The minimum age for members to use this site is 13 and follows a parental consent. If someone wants to view the pics, they can follow the link provided (which I left), but they will not be viewing graphic pictures of mutilated animals here. It only takes one member to deem the content offensive. That occured with these pictues, and they were removed. Period.

How were these pictures appropriate for this forum?

Charles:

As moderators, we have to consider not only the fact that members may have complained, but this is also the Internet and non-members view this site. That includes kids.

Sure, you might say "parental controls" or "parental supervision", but as we all know, that isn't always the case.

There's enough graphic photos on the Web (i.e. bombing incidents with Bhutto, etc.) without adding more. I would hope people come here to discuss military topics, not to view cow mutilation photos.

This is the only type of cow mutilation pictures I want to look at:

If I may jump in here. Military.Com, with the help of Rob Rodriguez, Grant Bolen, and Vince Patton wanted to expand a Military Entertainment area on the site here.

http://forums.military.com/eve/forums/a/frm/f/9050055211001

Although the original concept was to place shortcuts in the different branch forums to take them to the little known entertainment area, it was then decided for me to simply put a direct shortcut to the material instead.

To eliminate a number of posts in the branch areas, it was also decided to just have a few, then when new material, shows or other forms of entertainment were available.... to insert them as a REPLY in an existing thread. That is WHY it is being done this way as that is WHAT I was told to do.

Now, considering that over a 36 year period since the last broadcast of Radio First Termer in Saigon, right now I have over 3 million military personnel that subscribe to my feeds through Podcatching sites (iTunes, etc.) and that I have made many military folks aware of Military.Com whom didn't know this place even existed, it has been a good marriage and I have followed the rules exactly.

I have received a lot of e-mails since becoming a part of the Military.Com family thanking me for a laugh, a smile.... making a day just a bit better, regardless of whether it is music, comedy or sheer nonsense. As long as I have the strength.... I will continue to try and entertain those who have and will continue to put their lives, families and futures on the line for everyone.

IF the owners and administrators ever come to a point where they want me to handle things differently, they know how to contact me personally.

I hope this answers the questions posed. Anything else, you will need to address to the above named individuals.

Thanks for the courtesy ....

Dave

T & JerryG,

My point is that it is the members' choice to go to the thread; I went and I wont be back. I think this is a reasonable and responsible position for members of this site to take. If you dont like something dont participate in the thread and let it die its slow death. Why dont you moderators adopt a policy of enforcing the TOS and taking no further action as to post? i.e. banning.

Mr. Rabbit,

Do I understand correctly that you were advertising your entertainment site through your post and it was not intended to be a post for debate? OK I feel better, there was no point nor counter point.

In one of your were soliciting river boat operators from vietnam. Perhaps you should contact MCPO (ret) Bill Wells, he has some experience in this area, but he no longer participates in this forum.

Hi... thanks.... sorry for the confusion. Since the Coast Guard doesn't have a GENERAL DISCUSSION area like the other branches, this was the only logical place to promote the entertainment area, etc. When I was made aware by Vince as well as the folks on the Coast Guard Channel about you guys being the original "River Boat Captains" in the early stages of the Vietnam War, it totally blew me away and is something historical that I wanted to jump on and bring the proper respect and attention to the Coast Guard, who I have come to have a thousand times more respect for since becoming friends with Vince Patton and the owners of the Coast Guard Channel.

Yes, PLEASE, anyone that knows anybody for that story, PLEASE let me know.

Thanks...

Dave

It took me a bit to go back through the archives, but here are the interviews that deals with Coast Guard with Vince Patton and the one with the Coast Guard Channel where I first found out about the Vietnam River Boats being manned by Coast Guard Captains.

OK, I appreciate the interviews, but I think this is a debate forum. It is my impression that people come here to post their views, have others support ot oppose their vews and possibly learn from the experience. I appreciate that you have interviewed Vince Patton, I certainly appreciate your work of supporting the morale of those serving our nation. However, I think this is not the forum for your post. I just didnt know if you were trying to make a statement with your first post, now I know.

Like I said, with all respect in the world for your position, I have followed the guidelines that were established for the Military.Com Entertainment arena. If they direct me to do something different, I will be more than happy to comply and abide, just as I have for the past 12 months or so.

By the way.... guess I'm too old for all the code.... what does WWWWD mean?

Thanks for your comments.

We are already on the Air Force, Army, Marines and Navy. The initial concept was to have one in each of the American branches. So, as I said, I would not be objectionable at all to go in the General Area of the Coast Guard. Had I seen that area before (the other branches General Discussion sections are at the top.... that's what threw me) I would have started out there to begin with. Whatever is easiest for the mods. I have been a forum administrator for a British gaming company for 4 years and also do it for AboveTopSecret.Com, my ATS MIX show home base, so I know some things are easier than others. Quite frankly, if it is too difficult for the Mods.... you can simply kill everything on the Point/Counter Point area and I will re-upload the main threads on General Discussion (for those that want it). Whatever is easiest.... I'm open.
