I just graduated bootcamp and bought a 2009 harley davidson, one of those things you just had to do, what do I need to do to be able to ride it on base? I have a valid motorcycle license, and took the basic motorcycle safety course, do I just register it like a car?
Just take your license, course card and ID to the Yeoman and you should be good to go. Make sure you also meet all the ppe requirements (DOT helmet, long pants, long sleeves, sturdy footwear, gloves, eye protection). The helmet MUST be DOT certified, a "skid lid" will not suffice. Any questions, look in chap 10 of the Safety/Enviromental Health Manual. Good Luck and ride safe, HSC
Military ID, Driver's license, MSF Comnpletion card, registration, Insurance. Rather than carry all those thigs with me all the time, I made a color copy off all. That way, when you ride in the rain, you don't destroy the documents. The MSF card losses it's ink VERY quickly, so file it in a safe place.
If you have to ride on a DOD base for any reason you'll need all the above plus an orange reflective vest. Some bases will issue you one.
The safety yellow vest is just as reflective but some base instruction say orange and the gate guards are not flexible, so look around to see what everyone else is wearing first before getting a non-orange vest.

Chief, At some units the YNs aren't the people who issues the vehicle decal.
Dreistadt, depending upon your permanent duty station, you will either take the paperwork to the YN or ask them who issues the vehicle decals. You will take the paperwork to the office who will issue the decal. More than likely the Sector, ISC, or it could even be a DOD (Department of Defense) installation.

OK, getting a vehicle decal and driving a MC, even on base, are two different discussions. A vast, vast majority of CG bases do not require a decal. Secondly, the rules mentioned above have absoloutely ZERO to do with riding on base. All of the above applies WHENEVER your butt touches the seat. PERIOD. (Chris - you forgot the high vis upper garment, reflective at night, shame, shame, SHAME! )
43, congrats on doing all of the right things, including buying American Iron instead of say a KRAUTMOBILE like some folks! Please make sure all of the electrical circuits inside your helmet are functioning properly when you ride. (That means use your damn brain!) Over 80% of all CG motorcycle crashes at all severity levels (and this stat is very, very close to national figures) can be traced right back to failures on the MC riders part. Now - I am not a cager, I ride 52 weeks a year with a HD as my primary mode of transportation and in the last two weeks, I have read all 200+ mishaps for the last 18 months. Plese, don't let me read about you. Enjoy that ride!
Now for the important question - what model and where did you get a 09 already?

Master Chief- Nice to see you giving the Bimmer crowd some love for a change. Are you tired of all the fried rice jokes already?
Great advice for our new Coastie even if he chooses to ride one of tose 2 wheeled agricultural impliments.
Master Chief Yes, I did forget the refelctive part, darn it! Thanks for pointing out that these requirements are for ANYTIME the bike is ridden, not just on base.
BTW- Hardly riders are just jealous of BMW riders because our bikes can actually go around a corner at more than 20 mph....
Phil- Just to educate you a bit, Bimmer is the car and Beemer is the bike. When you say Bimmer, you have to say it with a "nasal" accent... BMW was making bikes long before they made cars and airplane engines before that (hence the emblem).
or moved beyond the 1903 aircooled pushrod V-twin farm impliment technology. At least now they have EFI but I guess that would be like putting airbags on a model-T...
The Roadking is down right now due to my need for MORE POWER! The S&S big bore kit caused grevious damage to the lower end, some interesting metal on metal sounds (re; the sound of money) Going to get her back up and running sell her and get a Victory Vision Street and give her a full blacked out treatment. So far the Yamaha FZ1 has been running like a swiss watch (probably just jinxed myself though) All jokes aside I don't give a crap what folks ride, 2 wheels will always be better than 4. Cars suck, bikes defy gravity! Cheers!

Of course, that would be a German engine.....(designed anyway)
