Yeah... I guess something is escaping my attention as well... Could you help us out? The weight doesn't look over to me and the sword has been standard since at least '88 when I went thru... Don't think that's it either. Maybe the hat?? Don't know how long that's been standard (not '88!), but it's been several years now.
Ok, I guess I am a little 'out of touch' with the garb worn my CC's... Yes I was talking about the sword. Didn't realize E-6's used them up there... I was aware of the hat...(still looks funny to me..)
Guess I was too "operational" to keep up with how they dressed... After my days in "boot camp" I never had a desire to go back.
Swords since '88.. WOW
You have answered my question.. Thanks.
Wray... P.S. He looks sharp in his uniform (funny hat included) I didn't even think about his weight.
Swords? Hmmm! All BM1 Thaxton needed was that perfect parade ground voice and a Swagger Stick. I went through during the summer around the same time as Wray. Thaxton would turn out in impeccable Tropical Whites every day. He looked as good at the end of the day as he did at the start even during that long hot summer of 1969.
I'd have to agree. PO Heinzman (now CHIEF ) is an excellent CC. The swords have been around for some time. They're changing the type of sword, from what I understand, as well. It's simple really. It's all for the crowd. It's a "parade" in it's fundamental sense.
I'm sure that if anyone has questions the TRACEN staff would have no problem answering them directly.
Wray, The "hat" has been around since '93... The CC's wanted to be "different" or "standout" from the rest of the Coast Guard, probably an identity crisis. I did not agree then or now... As far as the swords go, they should be left for the officers... The CC may be a good Coastie but, there are other things wrong in the photo, and a good CC would not have let that happen... Although I have never been weight/appearance challanged, some of the best Coasties I've known have been and they still did a great job!!! WG being one of them...
Doesn't look like the old Guard to me :-) Tango 67, Summer of 67, here. Gob hats, whites and such. Our CC was squared away all right but he used to love that swagger stick of his. He wasn't happy with the way I was "pulling in my chins" once and jammed it in under my lower jaw. It HURT!!
That photo looks like its out of a tacky hollywood movie kind of like Bill Murray's "Stripes."
The member pictured is an outstanding CC and is the epitome of everything that we stand for and teach our recruits. This board is not here to disgrace our members. It is a violation of every core value that we hold dear and live by especially on a public forum. The members that work here at TRACEN Cape May live these core values every day with everything that we do. They are the best of the best. Maybe some of you need to re-evaluate yourselves before writing some of these posts. And the sword is only used in ceremonies by the Lead Company Commander.
ASM- We've been using V necks since I've been in circa 1995. There in step. Photo looks sharp, and the CC is 100% squared away. Well, it's Friday... Have a great day folks, and enjoy the weekend...
How about the eye's right on the dude looking right into the camera? How about some crisp military creases and yellow brass buckle? A good brass shine is as white as the sword. How about some great "Kurt Rambus" military frames on those glasses and those hand positions could be a bit more squared away and tight?
Just bustin, of course! I guess I should have put a smily face in Do they remember Old Charlie Company, (Honor Guard) down there at Cape May Bruce?

Was there a guy in that picture ... I sure didn't notice ...
As for craazzy, did anyone see that wild glint in Mark Wood's eyes? Were you on isolated in that picture? Reminded me a little of Jack goin' off the deep end in "The Shining".

As stated above....not required on the t-shirt. You wear a v neck with the Tropical Blue Long uniform.
As for being in step...looks like they are all on their left leg stepping off onto their right one. Thats in step to me!
Lets stop picking people apart! Especially for those that are long retired. Regs/rules have changed since you got out or retired. Deal with it and stop saying how we are so different. Trust me, there are guys older than you who think "your Guard" was new guard compared to theirs!
Just my two cents....yeah, and I know I'll probably be the same way years from now once I'm retired, but, give these guys/gals a break!
