Basic Training
Posted
I am 18 years old, I enlisted in the Minnesota Army National Guard on October 31, 2006. I scored a 98 on my ASVAB. I am a 21B, Combat Engineer. I finished Basic Training, and will go to AIT in August.

When I shipped out from MEPS, the MEPS doctors noticed I had a chest dent. They asked if it had caused me any trouble, and I said no. They were quite skeptical, but let me go. The "P" in my PULHES was a 1 anyways, and I was sent to Basic, no waiver needed.

In Basic, the chest caused me issues. It still does to this day. Because of this, I know I can't be a combat engineer. I want to switch MOS, and I qualify for them all (98 ASVAB, no criminal issues, etc..). I tried to change my MOS, but my RSP cadre said that NGB policy states that no-one with a ship date can switch their MOS. I found out later that this wasn't the case.

Priorities:
1 - I will not ship to train as a 21B.
2 - I want to stay in the military.

1 - Can I change my PULHES ratings? If I could, would this make me ineligible for 21B (which needs a "1" in "P")? I want to do it this way, but I don't want it to lead to Medical Discharge.

2 - Can I contact a RRNCO in a unit I want to switch to and just have them try to make the switch for me?

3 - Would my commander be able to switch my MOS or even be able to give me an early ELS so I can come back in sooner?

4 - If those don't work, I'll have to fail to report for MEPS, thus getting an Entry Level Separation for Performance and Conduct. I'd be out of the military, but this is the only way to be able to come back in.

I appreciate your help.
