I was in the Reserves, went to BCT as a split op, Contacted in ROTC (Which took me out of the Reserves). Hated ROTC because of the little ****head cadets, and now I am enlisting NG.
To define Prior Service, by the book, is: Over 179 Active duty days and <or> MOS qualified,... right? Technically I am not prior service and should qualify for the active first option? Just wondering if any of you recruiters have had a similar situation. My Recruiter said it might be done but the people at MEPS can be sticklers about it. |

You are what is known as 'Glossary Non-prior Service' (GNPS) provided you did not serve more than 179 days on active duty and have not previously been awarded an MOS.
Active First is available to 'Non-prior Service' (NPS) applicants. The NGB AF policy memo does not state anything in regards to GNPS applicants which means it could be locally interpreted; but I wouldn't count on it since it clearly states who is eligible - NPS. Also, since you were discharged after having completed BCT but before completing your first term, you may no longer be eligible for any bonuses. |
