Yes, even when they are not shorthanded. You would be (or should be) standing duty appropriate for your paygrade and qualifications.

What type of unit and what type of duty is this?

I wish the duty we stood was appropriate for my paygrade but it is not. We stand OOD with the E5's and they all seem to think because they are standing the same duty as an E6 that they are E6's. It gets frustrating when you mention better duty for the E6's and the E5's are always asking what about us you cannot take the E6's out our duty will get worse. I would like one time to tell them to get a cutter and see what your duty is like then.

This is all ancient history, but my duty on the cutter was counting the animals as they came aboard the Ark so that two and only two came aboard. The next stop up the line was the HS (HM at the time) who determined that there was one of each gender. Same-sex marriage may make good politics but doesn't do much for species propogation.

What duty do the other non-engineering PO1s stand? I have been on units where PO1s stood the same watch as PO2, and units where PO1 stood the same watch as CPO, and units where they stood their own schedule.

I am at a Sector. All of us stand OOD and the E4 and below stand gate guard. This base could close at 1700 and everyone could go home but the old addage "this is how we have always done it applies".

CDR, I agree my only complaint is that there is no Chain of Command. It used to be if something made it to the chief there was a serious problem. Now everyone goes directly to the chief and E6 and below seem to be just there to work. I don't know this is just another way to vent when frustrated.

I stand duty in 2 seperate watch rotations at my current unit. I was comms qualified at a small boat station on independant duty. I wasn't in a duty section or used to fill a duty stander position, but did make the long drive into work on off days to augment bagged crew members.

Cutter I am not saying I should not stand duty. I like the duty we stand I am just saying that there is no incentive to advance. Like Lucus said it should fit your paygrade. I have always been told if you don't like it advance and truthfully I am sick of hearing it. I have advanced and have never gotten anything for it but more money. That being said I will study harder to advance to Chief because a 97 raw score just will not cut it.

may i ask what your duty rotation is? you mentioned in your earlier post that the E-5's get worried if you mention the E-6's getting pulled.

If it was a Group or Sector, I got a case of beer that says you are wrong. Wink That case of beer says that there was not one single days where the gates were closed and everyone went home. (Again, subtle hint on what I am getting at, look who I am, what my job is and you will catch your error)
