Talk to your supervisor and ask about a transfer. Usually, one will stay tour complete. However, if you've been a good shipmate I'm sure your command will try and entertain your request.

Hope this helps.

I ended up out of rate right out of A school too. 8 mos into that tour I responded to a swap shop ad in the CG Magazine and transfered PCS to TRACEN Yorktown.

I don't know if the Magazine still runs thoughs, but last I heard Freds Place does.

Keep your e-résumé updated, as well. You're supposed to update it 6 months after you PCS in to begin with, and I'm pretty sure you can update it whenever you want. You never know what might happen.

After that, you can talk to your command and ask them to talk to the detailer. Keep in mind that if you're in a billet that is traditionally hard to fill, you're probably not going to transfer.

Further, if your command is unresponsive you could talk to the detailer yourself. That's up to you, though.

Then you can deal with mutuals and unilateral transfers which I would suggest avoiding at all cost unless you are very well prepared to incur the expense of a move, or it's local.

I really think it sucks that they'd send someone out of rate from A-School, that really is just setting someone up for failure.

Since you are out of rate, you will have to be released back into rate. It all depends how "needy" they are for the paygrade. If you are in a special assignment (recruiting or basic training, etc.), you will have to get released by the special assignment detailer.

one of those guys,

Where are you out of rate at? Just curious what billets are out of rate for SK3's.

I too was out of rate as a SK3, however, unfortunately didn't advance like you and transfered a SK3. Congrats for advancing while out of rate, it's not easy to do. Do you have another SK at your unit?
