My vote would be somewhere warm with less rain. If you like cool and rain, try SE Alaska. Yeah I know --- but the pay is great there. This is true but still, I will be so happy to PCS from here to head back to civilization! Big Grin

Chris, I know, but I'm voting for a 210. I heard you want to come back! Sorry I won't be here since I'm leaving in 07.

I would have said any 180' WLB, but there ain't no more 180' WLBs and I don't know enough about the new WLMs & WLBs to make an informed opinion.

For now I'll say, in order, 1) any Polar that actually sails, 2) any 210' WMEC, 3) any WLR, and if there are still WLI/WLIC types that still have an SK billet, 4) any sea duty that is not a 270', and finally, if it's the only thing you can get, a 270' as last choice. [Note: That is an OPINION based on the fact that 270s ride like crap, don't have enough windows, and are short on weatherdecks; 210's on the other hand have large windows on the main deck, lots of light in the messdeck, great weatherdecks both covered and uncovered, and don't ride as bad]

What's going on Donny? I agree with the 140' + barge but it's time to go warm for me and the family. I have my eye on a few southern working boats! Wink

I did four years at a Group. Not bad.
I have 2 years on the Harriet Lane and have had nothing but good times. Both at work and on port calls. As for a good unit...I would have to say "any unit where all the SKs work as a team to make things happen." And if you are independent duty, and make things happen on your own, keep up the good work.

Don't be afraid to get underway, you will be suprised how much there is to learn.

The best tour that I ever had was underway on the HAMILTON. I was on the Damage Control Training Team (DCTT), I was qualified as an Landing Signal Officer (LSO) all while we were short personnel during my 3 years onboard. I had several other duties and responsibilities but in short I had a great Command backing me and a great team in the supply office. I volunteered to go and I would do it again. 378's see a large spectrum of Coast Guard operations.

My best position was at MSO/SEC Houston/Galveston. Like Etters said mostly because of who I worked with. Ofcourse the no duty on weekends and holidays wasn't bad either.

Sk8King.. I knew you would love the 140 with a barge comment! Classic! More helm watch than in your own office!

Yeah, barge in charge is nice! You stay back when the tug goes and breaks ice or for other tug-alone ops. Besides being on the helm for almost every buoy, it's a pretty sweet job. Busy at times, but it was my 2nd pick coming off PRI 3 so I can't complain too much...bad news is both 140' w/ barge are locked up for the next 3 years.

Best "position?!" Wink

Why, behind a half-door underway counting out cash to me in the pay line and making notations by hand in my pay record.

Beer

That probably sounds like I'm speaking in French nowadays, huh?

Oh yeah. Unless I'm on watch or doing drills about the only thing I'm counting are sheep. Wink (and the occasional PR call-in)
