I wasn't sure where to post or ask this, but this category seemed like the closest.

I am an air force wife, I have just been notified that my grandma is on borrowed time. Hubby and I are stationed 3000+ miles away from home. My mind is reeling with questions. we looked at plane tickets and they average 600-1100 per person for travel within the next 2 months, which we really cannot afford right now, Because we are in the process of relocating even further away from home (when it rains, it pours).

I mentioned we could go home in September and the price would be down to around 400 per person - to which hubby grimly replied Grandma may not make it that long...

Is there any kind of help offered by the military for these situations? What can I do? I am so conflicted and lost - emotions see sawing between crying, fear, stress, you name it.

you can go to the Relief society and get a no interest loan(paid back over 12 months) for plane tickets.

Space A would only be an option if her spouse was deployed ( I think in excess of 30 days, but It might be as high as 120 days). Otherwise, she would have to fly with her Sponsor and of course could get bumped at any time. Although they could qualify for a higher category(just under those on Orders if i recall correctly)

I am located in the panhandle of Florida right now - Tyndall AFB to be exact, we are moving to Key West NAS. My family is located in the Northwest, Grandma is in OR.

If you are going, will your dh be going with you? If so then Space A is a possibility. Get the Red Cross to send a message, then he may, may be able to get leave and in turn you will move up to a higher category on Space A. Check with Pcola, Jacksonville & even McDill (sp?) to see if they have any flights going to McChord, Whidbey, anywhere in the Pacific Northwest. You can also try calling the airlines or even going through a travel agency. When my dh's grandmother was in the hospital dying we were able to get him a last minute ticket for $800 from Hawaii to Toronto, ON instead of paying $2000. He then got upgraded to first class when they found out why & he was in the military.

You might look at frontier airlines and see if they have deals. I looked from Portland to Tampa and they where $750 RT 2 week advance. I saw less expensive fares from Seattle. Their hub is Denver. They also fly to Baton Rogue. I did find fares for less than $750, but you need to figure out if something works for you.
