Our 20th anniversary is Sep 30th. We've been apart for our 10th and 15th, and want to go to Ireland.

Suggestions on places to see, stay, etc?

Use a travel agency or do it ourselves?

Anything to avoid?

Do it yourself - check out the Irish travel websites and buy a copy of Lonely Planet.

Stay at B & Bs but don't lock yourself into B & B Groups - just find a B & B at whatever town you end up in for the night.

I suppose you'll be travelling around via a Rent-a-Car?

I suppose everyone has their own ideas but my favourite is along the west coast from County Kerry up as far as County Donegal and then if you can manage it (check with the car rental company if you can take the car into Northern Ireland)slip into Northern Ireland and drive along the north coast, call into Bushmills for a tour of the distillery and sample a wee nip of Black Bush.

Then visit The Giant's Causway and drive down through The Glens of Antrim and on back to Dublin.

Anyhow that's my idea, oh! and don't forget to have lots of Irish Breakfasts and make sure you try the Black Pudding.

Cheers

We are planning to go to Scotland next year, some friend there want us to stay with them. We had thought about flying to London and taking ground transportation to Scotland.

Any suggestions re. ground transportation, driving is out of the question! Thanks

Of course, this should probably be in a different thread since this one is titled "Ireland" but you should not have any trouble getting a coach or train to Scotland from London.

Why is driving out of the question if I might ask? The A1 might get a bit congested but with a map and half a brain it's a very enjoyable drive, particularly through Yorkshire and the Borders.

Otherwise the train isn't too bad and is reasonably priced if you book well in advance, travel at the weekend and you might even manage a cheapish First Class upgrade.
