I just spent an incredible weekend in New Hampshire at the Eastern Slope Inn in North Conway. Through the AFVC I was able to get a nice suite with gas fireplace, jacuzzi and sleeping room for up to 6 people, right on Main Street, within easy walking distance to everything in town. The best part was that the room usually goers for $260 a night this time of year (foliage season), but I paid less than $70, plus a resort fee of $36 for the use of their indoor heated pool, hot tub, and other facilities. I'd recommend them.

I'll second that recommendation! We took advantage of their week-long condo rentals in Orlando for $329/week. It was great and I'd use them again in a heartbeat!!

Before anyone can help, can you describe the problem you are having? Have you registered but can't book a property or some other problem?

How Far in advance can I book a reservation?
Wife & I want to go to Hawaii in 2011 So I guess that would be a bit too far off or not?

The site will tell you how far in advance. Right now in theory you could reserve until 2010, but there are no room available that far in advance. AFVC is run my the Timeshare Company RCI. They act as an exchange for Timeshare units and resell the excess inventory. Most timeshare developers also have extra units to allow for maintenance and use RCI to move the excess at a profit. In most cases unit owners do not bank their property this far in advance with the company. If you want 2011 you probably need to wait until 2010 or the end of 2009.

I've been watching AFVC for a place by Disney for our spring break week. We have to be able to sleep 6. Has anyone stayed at any of these and would you recommend it or not? which one?

Did anyone have to sit through a sales pitch, in which they are trying to sell you a time share?

Armed Forces Vacation Club is great. And no... you don't have to sit down for a time share presentation. The facility may try to get you to do so, especially by offering you free tickets, meals etc... just say no.

It is very, very hard to get into these condos anywhere in the US when it is that area's "peak" season. Especially Florida and Orlando. Summer is also a very hard time in general. I would highly recommend researching any condo at "tripadvisor.com" before accepting. Once you book they won't let you change if you decide you want a different condo. Once you pay you cannot make any changes unless you meet the criteria stated on their website.

For anyone looking at Orlando area... there are some real "dog" condos they offer in that area. That 2-3 bedroom condo may sound great... however the reviews may tell you otherwise. Choose carefully.

Another great thing they offer is "Nightly Rentals". We used to stay at "Vacation Club at Parkway" in Orlando. Great condo. It got to be so popular that is is no longer offered for the "$329" for the week... however we were able to book it for a "nightly price" that came out to be about $400 for the week. Incredible place.

Thanks for the orlando information. We have been watching condos but there is nothing available for spring break as you mentioned. We usually don't have a whole week off so will try the nightly price idea!

CONDOS NEAR DISNEY WORLD....Check listing for discounts on Military.com website for great condo availability near disney world. We have booked a week and it was very reasonable. Look for the link to "The Big Condo" list or there are others for the disney area. This will be more costly than a 329 week but we got a great deal for 7 nights at only 678.00. It's worth looking into!!!

I've used AFVC several times (before the price went up, twice) - Back then the first time you signed up, you had to call AFVC. It was pretty easy and painless. After that, using the internet was easy to search and book. We spent a week in Kauai, HI - but we lived in Hawaii and were able to travel between islands on short notice. It was an awesome condo in Princeville and we spoke to other people who had paid over $10,000 for their timeshares (I didn't mention we paid under $300 for a whole week. We also stayed in Canada and Hungary, we were not disappointed. I never went to a timeshare presentation, the staff seemed to not know if we were owners or renters - I did go to a morning discussion on trips the hotel offered. No pressures.
I always thought it sounded too good to be true, but after several people we knew tried it and loved it, we gave it a shot.
Tips: It used to be every Tuesday night they would put new listings out, so look quick for the good stuff. I researched it for several months in Hawaii and found out that Hawaii's openings usually were always 2 weeks out.
After you find a location that looks interesting, go to rci.com and find more pictures and information on the club. Will also tell you if it is a gold club, etc. Also, just google it to find info, or tripadvisor.
Good luck and hope this helps.

Actually, I used to live down there for many years. We have stayed more recently on our vacations at the Summer Bay Resorts in Kissimmee, Fl, and they are amazing! We stayed in a 2 bedroom unit and there was there were 6 of us, so there was plenty of room. They are gorgeous, and it is a gated community. We stay there every time we go to Florida. HIGHLY recommend them. 5 minutes from Disney. Not even Shades of Green can compare. There are a LOT in Kissimmee, and that is the place to stay. Good luck!
