1. First, I would like to thank DEKEOBOE,
BLADENSBURG, DAVE_M AND AKINNC for the info in my first request for info...Thank You Very Much. 2. Does anybody have any info on renting a car in Germany and taking it into Italy. I read several Rental Companies Cross Border Policies and it seems that Italy and a few other countries are OFF-Limits.I tried E-mailing them with this but am having trouble getting through. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks. |

Hi. In my experiences, the big car rental agencies in Europe will ask you where you will be driving, and assign you a car based on where you will be going. From Germany, the car rental places tend to not want to assign their more theft prone cars to travel in less safe countries. (You'll still get a car, but not the nice C-class Mercedes). Just some general advice here...be very honest about where you are going and do not drive into a coutry that you did not disclose. If the car is damaged or stolen and you weren't supposed to be there, you will be in a world of hurt. Italy is (or was) known to have a problem with car thefts of nice cars, with the cars being stolen and ferried over to places like Albania or the former Yugoslavia. But, the rental companies will rent you a car to be driven there.

It isn't so much car theft as the way the bloody Italians drive that worries the hire companies.
