My wife and I are thinking of visiting the Outer Banks and/or Myrtle Beach. I am a disabled vet, so there are some restrictions on my activity, but not mobility ones.
Financial is not the issue. I am looking for suggestions for both of these areas for a 50 something couple with no 'kids in tow'. We will probably drive. I plan on about 10 days, with a stop in DC to visit our adult kids. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Dave_M, |

Well, I've only been to the Outer Banks, so I can only tell you about them.
The best time to go is mid-summer, but that is also the most expensive time to go. After late August, most of the touristy stuff closes down, and before mid June, it's pretty cold to do anything involving the ocean. If you're into history, it is a really good place. You've got Kitty Hawk, where the Wright Brothers made their first flight and Roanoke, the colony that disappeared mysteriously. Also, if the wife loves shopping, she will be in heaven. Some other things you might check out there are the giant sand dunes or Cape Hatteras Lighhouse. If you take it slow in climbing either of these, they are worth it. There is also a pretty good aquarium in one of the cities. Hope you enjoy your vacation. |
