am looking to buy a travel site and I am in the US Coast Guard. I was wondering if you guys would use it, instead of ie...expedia, or obitz??

I will buy it if I think it will make any sort of money, but it would be a good site, b/c I am military and know what we need. Give me some feedback please.

I checked the prices on Great Travel site for car and air travel and they are no better than Orbitz, Travelocity, Expedia etc....

Be safe - go with a known web site.

Buying a site implies that you know nothing of the travel business which is the business you are planning on going into and you will do better because your military?? Don't you think that if Expedia, Travelocity, Orbitz, American Express, Carlson Wagonlit Travel, etc., could make money in the military market that they would be there? Truth is I have been doing military travel for two years. If I did not have my non military business, I would be broke already. I have the contacts in the military with people, bases and product. If you have the expertise you might make a little money. If you need someone else to create a site for you forget it.

bls2121,

There are some basic questions you should ask yourself first before you purchase another one's Web site...

#1 Does it cover an area you're knowledgeable about?

#2 If not, do you have at least a very high interest in the subject matter (i.e. area) and are willed to do the necessary work (i.e. research) to maintain that Web site and bring it to the next level?

#3 Are you knowledgeable in HTML and CSS, or you know of someone who is?

#4 What about marketing? Do you know how to successfully market your site?

#5 What about visitors, the life blood of your business. Do you know how to get thousands of unique visitors per day onto your Web site? That is a point most people fail. They put up a site but, without visitors, they dramatically fail.

And getting visitors from this very site alone is NOT enough. You'll need thousands daily, and these preferably from the Search Engines (and other sources).

Just my 2 cents...

Sincerely,
Marcus

P.S. Ever thought of developing your very own site instead, about your very own subject? If there's passion behind a site it's a lot easier to develop and maintain. It simply makes you "working" until midnight and getting up at "unusual" times. Wink

My advise is - Instead of buying new website, better go for starting a new website. Buying existing websites will have number of administrative and other legal related problems. Goodluck!
