A good friend of mine in the navy who was a nonsmoker would go with me every time I went for a smoke. no one could/tried to say a word to her about it.

if you're not getting enough breaks, thats your fault for not taking them.

What irks me is when I need to get ahold of someone to answer an urgent question or get some information, and I'm told they're on a smoke break. Or, I see someone on a smoke break and I tell them I need something from them and they tell me, "As soon as I'm done smoking, I'll get up with you." Then they come to my office hacking and coughing and smelling like stale cigarettes.

I read an article oh about 3 months ago, that said in the long run the NON-SMOKER cost us more health wise, why? Because on the avg they live 10 more years then a smoker, therefore at that age, (over 60) the non-smoker puts a heavier burden on the health system they the smoker (He is dead by then, except for me and I smoke and over 60).

Also in the article I read it was suggested that anyone who lives to the age of 75 should be NOT recieved any more health benefits and left to die of what ever they have.

Half of my family (aunts, uncle, etc) did not smoke and they all died of Cancer or Heart Desease (all the stuff that is cause supposly by people who smoke).

There is no Doctor in this world that can PROVE smoking CAUSE'S Cancer..not one!!! Everybody is born with cancer cells and they (doctors) haven't a clue as to what makes them active. And it always appears that once someone has surgery for cancer or cancer is discovered while having surgery, its all over, for once the outside air hits it, it spreads like wilf fire.
My aunt went in for surgery, they open her up, and she had cancer so bad, they just clamp her shut and she died two later. Her surgery was not for cancer by the way, I think it was a gall blader. Long time ago. My last living Uncle had cancer of the colon and brain and died in the VA hosiptal in Dayton, Ohio, (he knew better then go to the Cleveland VA and he was a lot closer to it then Dayton)anyhow he never smoke at all, ever, and I had a few others that never smoked and died of cancer...

Now to say that smoking doesn't effect you would be lying to you or very dumb..for I believe it does, like your heart and lungs, but not cancer.

But the biggest point is, this is America, where we are suppose to have the right to make a choice..that appears to be leaving us one thing at a time and its the good old congress thats doing it and we are letting them.

My pet peave is smokers who congregate at the entrance to a building, forcing everyone to run a gauntlet of stench. I also hated this when I was smoker as well.

In my day if you opened a vein of a typical lifer all that would come out is caffeine, nicotine, and some alcohol to thin out the mix. Wink

DOD just put a stop to this BS.

They said Soldiers deal with enough stress during war and this is a LEGAL way to unwind.

GG DOD YAY!!!

So there is not going to be a ban on smoking.

Why is it then, that if you are outside "unwinding" with a smoke, you are considered to be taking a break. BUT, if you are unwinding without a cigarette then you are shamming?

I have often found the military to be discriminating against non smokers but purposely indifferent as well.

I didn't have those views of my soldiers. I think you are dealing with individuals and not the Military as a whole.
