Unfortunately we had to adopt one of our dogs out last week. I put an ad in Craigslist and one in our local paper. I noticed I received more contacts from Craiglist which is FREE than I did from my local paper. Anyway how do you go about meeting the ppl you are selling to? For example do you allow them to come to your house, or do you meet them in a neutral area? Do you only give email contact info or cell info?

I RARELY put anything in the paper, but if I do in the future.... I think I will definitely do things different next time. I had an awkward situation that had me looking over my shoulders for a few days. Of course if the item is huge (like a big screen TV) that's a different story lol!

Oh and BTW-we found him a good home with a nice lesbian coupleBig Grin

Working in rescue, I can tell you how we do things: we start out with only e-mail or cell phone contact info. We rarely let prospective adopters come to the home where the dog is being fostered. We do home visits on all prospective adopters and require TWO volunteers to go together with others knowing the address and the visit time. To be on the safe side, home visits and requiring some payment for the dog, helps prevent giving a dog to someone who turns out to be a buncher who then sells the dog to a laboratory.

We do have the advantage of allowing folks to meet our dogs at adoption events in public locations, like area PetSmart stores, etc. For someone doing a private exchange, I would still recommend meeting in public - dog park, PetSmart type store, vet's office, etc.

Funny you should mention rescue. The main reason I chose these two ladies is because they do rescue and are animal lovers. He bonds better with females which was also a deciding factor. I was very picky with his new prospective home!

Dawg, you can go job hunting on craigs list? Cool!

Good on ya' for getting him a good home. Smile Applause

I know that everyone here is aware that I'm against homosexuality and also the 'legalizing' [or whatever the term is for gay marriage] of it. however, I have at NO time advocated that they be treated as lepers. If they appear to be good people, they should be treated as such. If they appear to be horrible or untrustworthy people, they should be treated as such.

IMO, the adoption of a pet does not involve the whether a person is attracted to their own sex or the opposite sex. It would only matter as to whether the proposed adoptee would be used as a sexual object or mistreated in any way.

And before the lashing out commences, I do NOT believe that because someone is homosexual that they will automatically be more disposed to other sexual misconduct such as beastiality.

These are my opinions. Yours may differ.

Then you should delete your above reply. It contributes literally nothing to this thread.
