The Media's Pathetic Double Standard By Mark Salter 'http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2009/09/15/the_medias_pathetic_double_standard_98303.html' I think Joe Wilson is a boor (both Joe Wilsons, for that matter, the Republican House member from South Carolina and the former diplomat). I can't watch Glenn Beck for two minutes without being repulsed by his equal parts maudlin and pompous shtick. But members of Congress who are strangers to decorum and polite discourse, unfortunately, inhabit both parties' caucuses, in roughly equal numbers. President Bush labored through his state of the union addresses through loud and persistent boos by Democrats. Maxine Waters recently called some senators "Neanderthals," a term she reserved for moderate members of her own party. She's considerably less charitable to her Republican colleagues. And the ratings wars on cable television are won by self-aggrandizing, close-minded, loudmouthed conservatives and liberals, unless one thinks Keith Olbermann built his audience share on the strength of his good manners and tolerance. Excesses of zeal by anti-Obama protestors make me ashamed for my country. As did excesses committed by anti-Bush protestors. Today's "birthers," are no more offensive or weird than those who believe the Bush Administration was complicit in planning the attacks of September 11 or invaded Iraq to increase the profits of defense companies. And, yet, it only seems to be rude or asinine behavior on the right that gives the press and other Washington elites the vapors. While on the left it is tolerated, attributed to provocations by the right, or in some cases invested with a virtuous significance it surely lacks. Many thousands of demonstrators marched on the Washington Mall last Saturday to protest Democratic healthcare reform proposals, and the Obama administration's record spending and centralization of economic power in the federal government. The Washington Post headlined the event as "Lashing Out at the Capitol." I can't recall the Post using a similar verb choice to characterize the expressions of anti- war protestors, some of whom carried posters bearing President Bush's likeness in a Nazi uniform and Hitler moustache. Political intolerance and incivility by the left and right is as prevalent on the internet as porn, and not that much less a factor in the coarsening of our culture. But for many reporters, anger on the right side of the web is worrying and important story. The Huffington Post is a source. Maureen Dowd, who usually offers readers little more than a few samples of her apparently limitless supply of silly pop culture tropes, this Sunday denounced Joe Wilson's lack of impulse control and "lovelorn" Mark Sanford's refusal to accept federal stimulus money as racist, and suspects the character defect is shared by most opponents to President Obama's policies. I'm more than a little familiar with that calumny, having been charged along with other senior members of the McCain campaign and our candidate with the same offense. We were somehow complicit with every intemperate jerk who shouted something obnoxious at any of our campaign events. Our ads about Democratic support for Fannie Mae were racist. Calling candidate Obama a "celebrity" was racist. Shouts of "murderer" or "warmonger" by Obama supporters or our opponent's accusation that Senator McCain was anti immigrant or trying to steal grandma's Medicare went largely unnoticed. And yet it was our candidate who often and publicly denounced crude or outrageous attacks on our opponent. The courtesy was seldom returned. McCain would have fired any staffer who said something or acted in a way that could fairly be described as racist. For his troubles, he was likened by a leading civil rights figure and Obama supporter to the murderers who killed three little African American girls. There was barely a murmur of protest by the press about that injustice. When a prominent abortion doctor was murdered the shocked outrage in the press and establishment Washington was pervasive and appropriate. As a pro-life Catholic, I'm convinced that people who murder to advance the cause are destined for a special place in Hell. But I don't think it's just my subjective perception that the murder of a disabled pro-life protestor was met with considerably less interest and outrage here. I despair of the coarsening of our politics and our broader culture. So much so that after a lifetime in politics I'm beginning to think I might have rendered more honorable service to humanity had I worked in professional wrestling. That independents, who decide elections in this country, seem to feel the same way is enough encouragement to hope that perhaps we are still capable of reform. But our political discourse won't begin to recover any civility until we get some referees back in the game, who will call bullshat on both sides. |

Clearly, the dinosaur media in this country is in the tank for Obama and socialist causes. History repeats itself...
The Venezuelan media is in the tank for Chavez... The Nicaraguan media is in the tank for Daniel Ortega... The Cuban media is in the tank for Castro... The Soviet Media was in the tank for Lenin, Stalin, Breshnev... The German Nationalist/Socialist media was in the tank for Hitler... "The World's Finest" |

And in 2002/2003, in the build-up of the Iraqi invasion, the media was 100% "in the tank" for GWBush.
What goes 'round, comes 'round. Wait your turn. Again. |

Bad analogy, in 2002 and 2003 the people, to include the vast majority of Democrats, supported the administration and the media simply reported the facts. Now the lamestream media disregards the facts and maintains its focus on whatever manufactured tripe appears on the teleprompter. |

They drank the kool-aid force fed them by the Bush administration. If you didn't, you were labelled 'UNPATRIOTIC'. And those of us who didn't, who didn't buy into the knee-jerk reaction of invading a country that had NOTHING to do with 9/11, and who posted banners on their houses saying nothing more than "PRAY FOR PEACE" were kicked to the curb as 'UNPATRIOTIC'. In the end, much of the media has admitted they were wrong to have NOT done their job by investigating the Bush administration claims of "weapons of mass destruction" ... which were never found. ETA: Excuse me, but HOW much of Europe was truly "in the tank" to invade Iraq?? And what countries were they? And how much did they receive in payment from the US to "participate"? |

There is no longer true unbiased journalism in the media it is a dying art...Sad!
If people want the real story now, they have to do their own research on the internet and such. |

Most of the regulars around here know that I lean left on most things. Generally, I believe that the media - if you sample a wide enough variety of it and don't restrict yourself to one channel or one newspaper or one newsmagazine or one blog - is representative enough of various points of view.
HOWEVER. This past weekend, as I watched curiously from OCONUS, I saw streaming video of a VERY large gathering of those who oppose the current administration's actions and proposals (on a variety of issues, not just health care reform) from YouTube and a number of other sources. Conspicuously LACKING from those "other sources" was CNN. It may have been on the tube, but on CNNdotcom, there was not and has not been a SINGLE WORD about the "Tea Party" campaign and march on Washington. I don't for a minute agree with that group's agenda (or multiple agendae), but I also disagree strongly with the lack of coverage. Disapproval, so we blanket you with silence? Shame on CNN. For this particular occasion, Gunny, I'm with you. |

It does not matter what your political bias is, journalism is supposed to be unbiased, lack of bias is so obvious when they fail to cover huge protests, that is just absurd, these so called news outlets (CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, etc.) have NO problem scouring the World trying to cover any protests, but fail to deliver when the protest is a cause they do not support or like!

To be fair, I did see a short video segment on CNN's website, but the so called journalist labeled the rally as an anti-Obama movement instead of an anti big government, stop the out of control spending, stop the socialist take over of medicine rally...He clearly missed the boat by miss stereotyping the message being presented, but what else can you expect from a bias journalist...At on of the last large tea party's (Apr 15) a reporter for CNN insulted the people at the rally she started verbally attacking them and then she made the claim that all those in attendance were Right Wingers being promoted to be there by FOX NEWS...The far Left needs to get a reality check, these folks are average Americans who pay taxes and want to be heard, these average folks ARE a force to be reckoned with even if people like Pelose THINK they are astroturfers, extremists, Right Wingers, etc, when the polls show they speak for the majority of Americans on how WE feel! "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOrPzVECSjo" Even though FOX shares it's portion of biased reporting they are the closest thing to actual reporting fair and balanced available out there and that is why their ratings are getting huge in today's media market! |

"http://gatewaypundit.blogspot.com/"NBC REPORTER CHUCK TODD: COVERING VAN JONES A WASTE OF TIME (VIDEO)NBC's Chief White House Correspondent 'Chuck Todd' does not fault the state-run media for 'ignoring' the communist-Truther Van Jones controversy.
He says it was a waste of time: Via "FOX Nation" For the record-- Van Jones was in charge of doling out "$80 billion of Stimulus money" to selected green projects. He was certainly no low level czar as Chuck Todd suggested. And so the Media's Pathetic Double Standard CONTINUES |

Here's a nice thought to offer some contrast...
Barack Obama (then Senator) and Pastor Wright helped Farrakhan organize the Million Man March… of which I believe the estimate was about 250 or 400 thousand turned out – someone might want to bird-dog that to correct it… but suffice to say, it was WAY SHY of a million folks – and it was ENTIRELY DONE to help the anti-American twisted hate-mongering Farrakhan… The Rev. Wright issue has already made its venue but again… I’m speaking of ideological contrast NOT RACE – so anyone who jumps on that asinine sunken boat – can go it alone… and just to very CLEAR about this one – I said it back then and I’ll say it now – what Rev. Wright lived through during the 40s thru 60s & 70s – is uniquely his… HOWEVER – they ARE NOT Obama’s! Obama is from a totally different – alien (if you will) generation. The commonality of Wright & Farrakhan are semi-theological – socio-political. It is a deliberate blend of politics sprinkled with enough religion to justify it and even “sanctify” their causes. Wright used to be with Farrakhan – but left the Muslim socio-religious side and went towards another equally twisted socio-political Christianity blend. However, BOTH come from the same root of politics FIRST – and use religion to accomplish the political agenda… Obama was attracted to Wright’s church BECAUSE of Wrights particular socio-political teachings. Both Wright & Farrakhan preach “Liberation Theology.” The focus is on the “liberation” whereas the “theology” is merely the means to draw them in and make them feel safe. Liberation theology is what has strangled Mexico and south America for so many years. They use their perverted brand of religion to accomplish their political agenda. Well, to a socialist – it doesn’t matter if it’s Islam – Christian – Tree Hugging liberals – the GOAL is socialism – Gov controls all necessities for the society to function. Yet, it’s much more than that – to assure the gov controls the necessities – it must prohibit any of the citizens from being “self-sufficient”. Therefore a specific amount must be set to prohibit citizens from attaining. So, Obama has repeatedly lied about creating a TRANSPARENT gov – as most folks are beginning to understand what we’ve heard was lies – and now even what we SEE coming from DC is a LIE and what we KNOW to be truth we are being TOLD is a LIE… So – consider this CONTRAST…. Obama helps organize, supported, and spoke at a “major” event for a man who is at best an ENEMY within – Farrakhan - - OBAMA SUPPORTED and ADDRESSED THE CROWD – and did so for a militant anti-American – hate monger… He gets elected and MILLIONS watch around the world – his ego can barely be contained with our stratosphere – he pays lip service to what he knows this crowd wants to hear… MILLIONS watch and participate throughout the country – LOOKING TO HIM EVEN – the ONE – the CHANGE – YES WE CAN –guy… and where is Obama??? What’s wrong with that picture… Might it be Obama’s agenda is more important they the “WILL OF THE PEOPLE..?” The underlying cement of socialism is always – use whatever necessary to bring the sheeple into the pen. Once they’re in feed them – clothe them – pamper them – and make sure they think you actually care… while simultaneously continue the socialist grinding mills – push them harder – force them to push harder – make more bricks or I’ll take away your straw says the pharaoh… Obama was all for promoting a anti-American liberation socialist event – which is all his Green Czar ever did but got caught before he was sanctified by the liberal press… Obama supported the socialist anti-American agenda of Farrakhan – but when REAL everyday Americans show up to share their voices – Obama is SO arrogant – blatantly ARROGANT – he goes off to a “pre-staged” pep rally to instead… Personally, I don’t think Obama has the integrity to even tie the Rev. Wrights shoes… He threw Wright under the bus at the first road bump… Strange isn’t it – it makes one wonder WHO THE HECK IS WALKING THROUGH THE HALLS OF OUR CAPITAL THESE DAYS… What are they doing? What are they DOING??? ….keep the powder dry – that’s all I gots to say about it – keep that powder dry… I anyone who thinks this is Obama’s doing is even dumber yet… He’s merely puppet – who’s the puppeteer? What were there over 150-top European hardcore socialists at the great sermon on the mount in Denver… by January, I thought for sure we’d see him riding in on his donkey with palm leaves laid in the streets before him… Strange contrast… but hey, his socialist number-one – Axelrod says those radical extremists don’t represent America anyway… ...just a hmm rant to ponder... |

Do a little bird-dogging and find out WHO & WHY Obama was SO BIG on CORN FUELS and that might shed a little light on ole Van Jones... Why sell drugs to make a few 100 thousand bucks when you bilk BILLIONS out of the Gov... LEGALLY!... And just for teasers... what do you think this bank bailout is all about... it isn't about the massive foreclosures... from those "so-called" dead beats who shouldn't have bought the high-priced houses... These bankers and Wall Street cronies make the Columbian Drug Cartel look like girl-scouts... and sadly, it's still going on. It's been reported that upperwards of 40% of those being foreclosed on are ILLEGAL - ILLEGAL foreclosures by the banks... What was the excuse for bailing out the banks??? They were TOO LARGE to fail and would cause catastrophic harm to the nation... THey allowed the to grow to big... What has happened since then - They forced the ones they wanted OUT OF THEIR WAY to fold - reduced the number of banks and did what - MADE THEM BIGGER... hmm, but I thought... go figure... That Van Jones held the check-book to 80 billion dollars and who received those checks..? Oh, that's write we don't know because THEY WON'T SHOW THE BOOKS... what happened to transparent gov... they must have meant something else - new windows or something ... |

Thank you, I say show it all good bad and ugly. Have you noticed the silence on Acorn also? Charlie Gibson claimed he didnt know anything till yesterday. I guess anchor-boys only watch their network. It was lacking on the networks too, but what I did notice was selective editing finding only certain types to portray. They have had Tea party rallies all over the country and the msm barfely mentions it at best. Now remember the May Day Illegal marches similar numbers but smaller in most cases and it was non-stop coverage with foreign flags dem politicans and people here on the left were oh so supportive and so was the msm. But put som e Americans in a march that dont like big govt and its hurling names by the msm and left and the absolute least coverage possible. I might be conservative and its obvious to me of bia, you can dismiss me and others like me but you would be stupid to dismiss the rest of America for not picking up on it. I think pew just did research and it stated that the populace overwhelmingly doesnt trust the media. Wonder why. |

GlassOnion! Thanks and I am going to do some research. It IS just like WE must become our own REPORTERS (formerly know as 'Journalism') Oddly enough, U and I are NOT the only ones asking "Where is the 80 Billion Van Jones had??" So yes, this is OT because it is another blatant example of the Media's Pathetic Double Standards.

As soon as the affiliation of the interloper was discovered she was sent packing. It was surprising to see that CNN still has a film crew, its practice of simply reading twitter traffic has seemed to occupy most of its time lately. |

Oh HELL no, 67NOV! But when the bias is so blatant - as it is on Faux News - I have a problem. If CNN is no better than FN, then we're in big trouble. As I said, I'm OCONUS and don't have a TV, by choice - only my computer. So it's possible that I missed some CNN postings, but I log on several times a day (the international version is my homepage) and haven't seen anything there from Saturday on. I also check the US page, and saw nothing there either. The only thing I did see was a video showing how a CNN reporter was drowned out by the protesters chanting behind her. (Pretty funny, actually.) |

It's been a long, long time since CNN was up to the standards of FOX. Many "everyday" people understand this and that goes a long way in explaining why the CNN reporter was shut down by the crowd. This message has been edited. Last edited by: adminnco1, |
