The rules say you cannot LINK. I didn't see anything about providing addresses. the "post a reply" box automatically changes anything that looks like addy into a URL link.

for instance, http://forums.military.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/409192893...991001#4520018991001

can be written 'http://forums.military.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/409192893/m/7670097991001?r=4520018991001#4520018991001'

or *http://forums.military.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/409192893/m/7670097991001?r=4520018991001#4520018991001*
without auto changing them to links

How hard is it to cut and paste, or highlight and drag? Smile

My suggestion: if you have an outside link, simply paste the word DOT in place of the dot. We can translate that easily enough.

This has become the worlds most rinky-dink place. I can see why it's called Military dot com... it's a general military style cluster fk.

You got that right Smile

I am assuming that all of the notices posted at the top of the forums will be changed to meet these new requirements. Big Grin

Many members who used to post on ITN are on the JIVE comment areas under the nice people who provide us with the news on this site.

The discussion forum folks here have zero to say about that side of it.

Just want to double check this with you... since my site "IS" found in your Military and Veteran Associations page, can I get my link reinstated in that one thread where it was removed as spam? Wink

Rob is going to be posting them when he has finished revising them.

I take it you don't trust the mods to keep order in 'Dodge City'?

It has nothing to do with trust and everything to do with volume and reality.

It has to do with the drive by mentality of posting in forums, also known as "trolling" and "Flaming" by those who are dead set on bringing a forum down or so thoroughly trashing it, that no one wants to be a member.

Drive by, throw a bomb, light a flame and leave. Like some are already engaged in here, nothing to substantiate the absurd allegations or brazen insults, just the allegations and the taunts and the caveat "prove me wrong!"

So if the "powers B" want basically a public restroom mentality of in essence scrawling absurd graffiti on the walls here, and then fleeing the scene while the mods are left to come in and paint over the absurdities? I say they are welcome to it. Just bring large shovels and a lot of paint and be prepared to spend a lot of time sweeping up pile after pile after pile.

At least for a while. Until the forum dies. After that it ought to be pretty manageable here and about as active as a graveyard.

If I am understanding the situation correctly, they don't have a choice, unless they want to be sued???

That has been a prediction off and on now for about 8 years or so here. Cool

I am guessing that the "URL" box on the reply screen will be removed so nothing will show up as a direct link.

I thought posting a link was a courtesy, so as to save space here, and give readers a chance to go and read it themselves if they wish. Isn't that how both P/CP and In the News are supposed to work?? I am confused about this - - Confused

USAF,

The downside to perusing the JIVE function, means that we are limited to the news articles posted by mil.com, correct?

I still don't see why the 'left' should be seen as the beneficiaries of the changes. There are imperfections on both sides, but the two worst examples of negative posting I can think of ofhand are rightwingers. Perhaps that's due to a mindset that says 'They will sink to any level to get what they want, so I must sink lower', but it's not healthy.

Not to further complicate things even further but if you drag and type the link are all of those gonna have to be verifable, too Wink

I am sorry I didn't explain thoroughly, my friend.

The Mil.com Main page news has it's own comment section attached to each story they provide.
It is under a different administrative system called JIVE. We here on the Discussion Forum use a system called EVE.(No idea what they mean, namewise) We have absolutely no control over what gets posted on the main news page from this side.

If you look at the comments area there, you will see folks who used to post on our ITN.
Or even still do.

Only if you want to provide a link.

Otherwise, input it so it doesn't automatically link.

Also, cutting and pasting ENTIRE articles will probably not be cool. I don't think they can stop anyone from brief quotes. That means one should go through the article and pick out some juicy bits that help make your point, not the whole thing.

Would then not some if not a lot of comments be taken out of context? or be misrepresented as least.
