As it happens I was one of about 10 people last night to witness Keith Olbermann's absolute meltdown on television last night. For starters, he compared the Republicans (not Democrats, and not the troops) reaction to John Kerry's self-imposed hell to the Sumner caning in 1956, and added:

In point of fact, it might have been the moment, not when Brooks broke his cane over the prostrate body of Senator Sumner, but when voters in Brooks‘ district started sending him new canes.

Tonight, we almost wonder to whom President Bush will send the next new cane.

If you read the whole unhinged diatribe (scroll down to "special comment") it becomes clear that Olbermann thinks the troops are stupid too. You see, they would not have felt insulted by Kerry's words except for Bush's "minions" (not including the chorus of Democrats of course):

You are merely a politician whose entire legacy will have been a willingness to make anything political; to have, in this case, refused to acknowledge that the insult wasn‘t about the troops, and that the insult was not even truly about you either, that the insult, in fact, is you.

Olbermann adds this little gem:

A brief reminder, Mr. Bush: You are not the United States of America.

What a coincidence. Mr Olbermann is not a credible journalist either.

He's a disgrace and an embarrassment to the profession.

This one's from a few years back...but the message is as clear now as it was then. Olbermann is nothing but an industry shill who cannot speak his own mind, just paltry words fed him by the magic mirror of MSNBC. I will rejoice the day this hack, this autojournalist no longer has a national stage to spout his halfspeak.

Guys and gals do a TV show, commentary, broadcast. Afterwards, they check with Nielson to see how they did and how the public responded.

If one topic, action, event sticks then the producers allow them some lee-way to carry on and act ignorant. The producer, writers are not on the TV screen acting like idiots, so why would they care what Olberman does.

Judge Judy rants and raves, at times is demeaning to the litigants, Jerry Springer constantly makes an azz of himself, and the spinoff show, the guy who used to do security on his show - the ex-cop, now has a show that mimics Jerrys. Sometimes I wonder if it is not actors - on the peruse of a script ( Mom watches it as she is fixing dinner - I have no other option but to suffer when I visit my parents house - Dad usually comes with an exit stage right phrase...good dad ).

It sells. Being popular has its virtures........Most everone talks to teh unknown about how great you are, and how your show is better.

Ratings...ratings.

Olbermann is the Limbaugh of the Democrats. In fact, he seems to me to be the new leader of the neolibs.

Believe it or not, MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann says he’s not biased. In March he told C-SPAN his philosophy was to "go after power. You don't go after a Republican or a Democrat." Last June he told the Houston Chronicle that while his world view included elements from the "liberal play book," his on-air approach is strictly even-handed. "My point of view is about delivering information and context," Olbermann claimed. "It has nothing to do with a political point of view."

But those who watch Olbermann’s weekday Countdown program know he regularly seeks to please the far left with liberal agenda segments, ranging from whether George W. Bush is the "worst President ever" to promoting loopy theories that the Republicans stole the 2004 election.

Olbermann has now helped the Media Research Center quantify his anti-conservative bent. Beginning one year ago this week, Olbermann has picked his choice for the "Worse," "Worser," and "Worst Person in the World!" As he told a TV writer last December, "It’s a euphemism for somebody who’s wrong and egregiously stupid and abusing their own position."

To find out what irks Olbermann, MRC researchers examined every one of his "Worst" segments from their debut on June 30, 2005 to this past Friday, June 23. While many of his targets weren’t political (last week he scolded a Chinese restaurant that served meatballs made from cats), about a third of the time (33%), Olbermann’s wrath was aimed at a notable liberal or a conservative, or someone flailed for an ideological stance, such as on March 15 when he castigated "doubters of global warming" because yellow sand was falling from the sky in South Korea.

For someone who claims his editorial decisions have "nothing to do with a political point of view," Olbermann has thrown nearly all of his punches at conservatives. Of the 197 politically-salient designees, nearly nine out of ten (174, or 88%) attacked conservative targets or ideas, compared with 23 nominees (12%) in which liberals were on the receiving end of Olbermann’s ire. Among those attacked by Olbermann: Bill Frist, Donald Rumsfeld, Antonin Scalia, Rick Santorum, Tom DeLay and Pat Robertson (four times). Never targeted: Hillary Clinton, Howard Dean, Michael Moore, or even William Jefferson, the Congressman alleged to have stuffed tens of thousands of dollars in bribe money into his freezer. (See the complete listing of Olbermann's liberal and conservative targets.)

Among the few liberals he did criticize: Representative Cynthia McKinney, for slugging a police officer, and New York comptroller Alan Hevesi, for telling graduates that Senator Charles Schumer would like to "put a bullet between the President’s eyes." But Hevesi was just the runner-up that night; Olbermann decided his Bush hate wasn’t as bad as the Filipino cab driver who accidentally rammed a hearse, sending a corpse flying out of its coffin and into traffic.

Olbermann uses his podium to attack his non-liberal media competitors, especially FNC host Bill O’Reilly, whom Olbermann disparages as "the big giant head" or "Ted Baxter," the dim anchor from The Mary Tyler Moore Show. O’Reilly has been a target 42 times; in contrast, Olbermann has only badmouthed Saddam Hussein twice, most recently on Friday after learning that the ex-dictator’s "hunger strike" actually amounted to skipping only a single meal.

Olbermann’s other media targets: Rush Limbaugh (11 times), Ann Coulter (9), Brit Hume (4), Neal Boortz (3), Glenn Beck (3), the New York Post (2) and columnist Michelle Malkin (2), whom Olbermann rudely called "crazier and dumber than we all thought" and a "nitwit." Sneering at conservatives may make Olbermann popular among left-wing bloggers, but his bias makes him the obvious choice for "Worst Anchorman in the World."

Is a moron wanna be Walter Cronkite, he won't last too much longer. He will fall out of favor as the political winds blow. The only people that listen to him are the far left just like the only folks that listen to Rush are mainly the far right, cept those far left looking for reasons to try and "bust Rush."

No, he is not.

There is no liberal or Democrat equivalent to Rush Limbaugh.

I don't always agree with Keith Olbermann. That's where it ends. Sometimes he can come across as ranting in his "Special Comment" feature, but for the most part he keeps it in check during his 1 hour program.

He does not race bait day after day like Rush Limbaugh. He does not outright lie like Sean Hannity day after day. He does not play to your fears like Glenn Beck day after day.

Until he starts doing any of that, I will continue like him for being the first guy in the mainstream media to finally go after Faux News for the fraud "fair and balanced" cable news channel that they are.

I left television journalism for one thing and one thing only; the fact that I could not sell my self-respect, dignity and "my word" for a lump of cash. I couldn't do it and left to pursue interests in entertainment media. Too bad, now my production company is toast and I am a regular working guy. If I were still in newspro, I could be a contender. I have the hookups, connects and a great resumé.

It would eat me up more than it would feed me.

I'd rather work.

There, I fixed that for you.

And Olbermann is the neolib/Democrat equivalent to Rush. Olbermann is the neolib leader, it's easy to see.

For every ying there is a yang, and as bad as Fox can be, Olbermann and MakeShift News Bawling Constantly, are worse.

Don't get me started on the Communist News Network....

Seriously? C'mon now.

But to answer your question, no. The fact that SNL did this skit, while trying to gain laughs, did it to lampoon Loonymann and his style says quite a bit.

And they were spot on.
