As we have all seen or heard of the video showing 2 of our so-called Honorable Marines doing an unhonorable and unthinkably cruel act of throwing an innocent puppy to its death for no reason. Please answer how you think these soldiers should be punished.

Question:
What punishment should these soldiers face for their unhonorable cruelty to this innocent puppy?

Choices:
Same treatment they gave the puppy.
Dishonorable discharge.
Severe penalties and discharge.
Nothing

Would be asking too much, if we all wait for the investigation to be completed, BEFORE, we start deciding what should happen to the "suspected marines".

I had to answer "nothing" given the choices offered, as being to closest to a just outcome. An incident like this could be dealt with at an Article 15 NJP. Cool

You need to provide an option that does not involve discharge. If the guy has mental issues sure, throw him out.

I think a reasonable punishment would be a reduction in rank to E-1 and 6 months Barrack Restriction.

Now of course An *** beating wouldn't be out of the question Wink

If found that video was real, undoctored, the Marine did indeed fling the dog, I say that a nice contribution to the Old Soldier's Home would be appropriate (what OldMole said!).

All involved parties should be fined.
-Marine flinging dog,
-Marine buddy watching and having a great time,
-person videotaping event,
et al.

Why? Even if the tape is fake they still wiped the Marine Corps' respect on their arses and gave the terrorists we are fighting fuel, by showing how supposedly horrible our country is (Not that one person's actions are any indication of how a country is...) I think that deservers a dishonorable discharge any way you cut it... granted, no more than that... I find some happiness in my standards...

If it is a real scene, then jail time... I know if I would beat any neighbor's dog with a bat, or run them over, I would be in jail...

Considering that I have seen sailors get kicked out after having random breathalizer tests at the brow in Liberty ports, I would say that they should go to NJP and should be discharged with a General (under honorable conditions) if what I saw is indeed what happened.

That's a helluva a standard to judge a man by. Breathalyzers and discharges for gettin' drunk on liberty?

What the hell is going on in our military? Have the moral purists taken command and want our warriors to be discreet diletantes who know how to hold a teacup, but wouldn't get bashed and start a barroom brawl on a bet?

Jeez Louise! Roll Eyes

We have to wait for the investigation to be completed before we say what should be done here.

We only viewed a short portion of what went on.

Are you for real? Kicking out a soldier for killing a bleeding puppy? You ARE kidding right? Sure its tasteless but for crying out loud, they are soldiers, being tasteful shouldnt be part of their jobdescription imho, they have more important things to worry about. Like having the guts to risk being blowing to bits. And the dicipline to obey orders. And to have the hardness to fire deadly weapons on human beings. So what, we have all done things that seemed like a good idea at the time but in retrospect we are not so proud of. I know I have at least.

I feel for the guy (only because of those that made a decent case for him) but, if found guilty of cruelty to animals I'm on board with severe penalties and discharge.

At a unit where I was stationed, two individuals beat an animal to death. They were taken to Captain’s Mast and part of their punishment was to work at a Humane Society. I view that as just punishment. Animal cruelty for cruelty’s sake is an indication of something “not quite right”.

Personally, I agree. But half the fun of being a P/CP keyboard warrior is being OMNISCENT, OMNIPOTENT AND OMNISTOOOPID. Wink

That said, assuming that the Marine did the deed... or doctored up the film to make it look like he did the deed... I'd vote for an Article 15, a stint working for the Humane Society AND a stretch clearing mines by probing for them with a bayonet.

Knock him one paygrade and extra duty for 60 days.
Have someone with a star sit him down and explain things to him.Nice friendly chat.

Punishment only if proven guilty. I'll be happy to let the USMC decide on what's necessary, again only if he is found guilty.

Yeah, funny how there's not an option that does not involve a discharge.

This poll is rigged, it's either discharge or death. I think that he should perhaps get a field grade article 15, with loss of rank, a months pay, and extra duty. I don't think that he should have his military career ruined. For all we know, he may be a good Marine who did something really, really stupid. The biggest issue here is that he has provided the public with yet another weapon to use against our military.

Edit: I'd also have him see a counsellor.
