The administration and Republicans in Congress want us to stay in the middle of the Iraq Civil War, helping Maliki and his Iran-backed Shiite militias, even though the Prime Minister has made it clear he wants vengeance on the Sunnis, not compromise with them:

The Army is considering whether it will have to extend the combat tours of troops in Iraq if President Bush opts to maintain the recent buildup of forces through spring 2008... Most soldiers [now] spend 15 months in combat with a guaranteed 12 months home...

Except the "guaranteed 12 months"... isn't guaranteed :

After several weeks of review, U.S. Army Europe said Friday that a company of 1st Armored Division, 2nd Brigade soldiers would deploy as scheduled in November, just nine months after returning from their last Iraq deployment.

As for a civil war, stop watching Communist News Network. All my friends that are currently or just got back from Al Anbar province says it's a cakewalk compared to three years ago when I was there in 2004. There's a great article on this in the Army Times dated June 04, 2007 about how all the Sunni tribes have joined forces with us and kicked the piss out of Al Queda cells. How do they do this. By the only way you can deal with terrorism which is a bullet to the back of the head. God bless everyone of those Sunni's.

h yeah about two months ago on NPR Wolf Blitzer talked about how the Dems are going to shoot themselves in the foot with this thing. He said (not exact quote) that since we will be in Iraq as long as Bush is president. After that if a Democrat takes office (please God no. I really like money and the support of my Government as well as the tools and the resources to do my missions)then two things will happen. 1.) They will pull us out of Iraq. All sorts of bad things will happen such as terrorism here, Iran is twice as big and powerfull we become the worlds largest ***** etc. This will be blamed on the new Dem president and will not vote to the left for the next election because of all that bad stuff.
2.)The new Dem president keeps us in Iraq because the new president realizes what will happen. All the people that voted for him/her are pissed because they promised to take us out of Iraq and they didn't.

Either way for the Democrats right now unless they change their tactics either way it's a lose lose situation for them.
