Seems that you're the one missing things.
Can't address the FACT that I didn't mention the race of those that qualified for promotion in my post. Wasnt making that an issue Roll Eyes
I am not the one making it a race issue Maxine..... Razz
I wasnt the one making accusations, Skippy

Never said you did show where I accused you of anything. I simply added to your post with additional info. Roll Eyes

Additional info that specified RACE.
What was your point? My post didn't exclude the person who just happened to not be white, yet you felt it necessary to interject that little tidbit into my post.
You really aren't very bright are you?
Maybe you should quit while your (not) ahead?

My point surrounds the test itself and who picked it and what was "wrong with it" and why was it "unfair".
You, on the other hand, have gone straight for the race card....bravo! Roll Eyes

There was nothing wrong with the test. test shouldnt be based on anyones race. I am sure you agree.

In the future kindly refrain from ADDING to my comments. Thanks. Request Denied
As for the test, there has been no definitive proof about the substance of the test in how it would benefit anyone.
If the questions on the test were "biased" to benefit one group over another then the individual(s) who approved that test have some explaining to do.
If the test was weighted on job related situations then someone has some sour grapes to make w(h)ine out of!

I'll add to any comments I want, that is what this board is about.

If it had any relevance to my post then it would have been a non-issue.
Who's the one in a rage? That would be the one typing in all bold...or YOU!
Here's a thought....don't ADD anything to my posts.
Post it on it's own merit as a stand alone comment from yourself and there won't be any issues.
Don't make it sound like I'm the one omitting anyone from the issue when I did no such thing.

Why don't you get a clue?
You added something to my comment that was unnecessary and irrelevant.
Why? You still haven't given a plausible explanation, so you must have some ulterior motive that defies reason.
And I'm not buying it.

Hey it's in Bold!
Heres the clue for you, you made a comment that the suit was filed because they said it discriminated against minorities. I added the comment about the hispanic, because the plaintifs made that claim and if so whats up with a minority doing well. The comment was to the generalizations of the suit.

It had nothing to do with you.

Do you get it now?

It was painfully obvious to anyone except you.

btw, I really dont give a flying blue monkeys fart what you buy.

You are the only one that was on the attack the whole time. If you're so god damned sensitive about people responding or making comments on your posts maybe you need you need to reprioritize.

Or you can call a mod and tell him I was baiting you. Roll Eyes

OR...you could point out where I made any comment about a specific ethinicity being discriminated against:

Who picked that particular test to administer and have they used that test in the past?
Why would it favor a specific ethnicity over another if all the employees are supposed to have the same training and education (if required for employment)?
quote:
Writing for the four dissenting justices, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg complained that the ruling means that New Haven, with a minority population totaling almost 60 percent, “must today be served — as it was in the days of undisguised discrimination — by a fire department in which member of racial and ethnic minorities are rarely seen in command decisions.”

The community must be served by those most qualified to do the job.
If the test was administered fairly (and no one is saying it wasn't) then this is simply a case of individuals wanting something they earned and not a case of discrimination against those who didn't score high enough to earn it.
If the city wants a "fairer?" test then the next time they can choose a different test to administer.
BUT....what happens if the different test produces the same results?

I believe a Hispanic scored well on that test also and was passed over.

You see, I made no comment "EXCLUDING" anyone who scored high enough to get promoted, yet you felt it necessary to point out that an individual of hispanic descent was part of the group that scored high enough.
You apparently don't get it and I'm done trying to explain it to a brick wall.
Maybe you should YT the mods and explain why I'm calling you out on your crap?!

As a Black man I totally agree with the above. Whenever I hear the term "bias test" in this day and age it confuses me personally. As for as information goes I can't imagine anyone knowing more than myself on a variety of given subjects.

Everyone has access to the world's information and a grown man has no excuse for not knowing information that might be on a test they had to study for when the Internet puts all this information at your fingertips.

This is just my opinion and I have argued my point of view regarding this in my social circles. I believe they gave the white firefighters a bum deal and the SCOTUS made the proper decision.

Really?? After all this time on these boards you have not seen this? This is done all the time and in many different ways, some do it bold, some do it with different color text, some do it by breaking each line into separate quotes. All are ways to differentiate the original text and the additional commentary

Not hardly Unny.
Again, I made no specifications about who was involved in filing the lawsuit as I believe that it's IRRELEVANT to the issue.
That is the point.
The fact that YOU felt it necessary to ADD that someone of hispanic descent was part of the group that filed the lawsuit is the issue that you keep avoiding.
I've never said it was about me. That's YOUR skewed perspective and part of the problem.
Why did you feel it was necessary to ADD that someone of hispanic descent was part of the group that filed the lawsuit?
Seeing as how I made no reference to any ethnicity it must have been merely a vain and failed attempt to inject your flawed opinion to an otherwise valid commentary.
So get off your high horse cause you ain't all that with a cherry on top skippy.

I hope Sotomeyer gets approved.

The truth is, that racisim is embedded in the laws to such an extent that no matter how race-neutral they are, minorities still get discriminated against.

Look at the Legal profession, the medical profession, the Ivy League, and Congress, and you will know that Whites dominate them all.

Now, you can convince me that Affirmative Action is wrong. There are ways which you can do this.

This forum is point/counterpoint, and if you can't convinnce me of the wrongness of A.A., you can't debate.

Here is how to convince me.

Present research, and proven evidence that Affirmative Action penalizes hard work, effort, and following proper protocol.

Example: I want stories of blacks, hispanics, and whites alike who are flipping burgers at McDonalds and living at home with their parents because their entire paychecks are going towards paying off student loan debts that they incurred because:

a. They were ineligible for Financial Aid because their high school grades were high, and Financial Aid offices equated good grades with good socio-economic status.

b. These College graduates flip burgers at McDonalds because employers equate good .college grades with high socio-economic status, or some other kind of unfair advantage over College graduates with lower grades.

After all, Affirmative Action takes into account other things besides race, things like socio-economic status, right?

So, please, provide evidence that Affirmative Action lends a helping hand to the disadvantaged by penalizing those who followed proper protocol.

You prove that Affirmative Action penalizes hard work and proper protocol.

I want stories of families of all races, who struggle to pay for their kids' College education because their kid couldn't get financial aid, all because the kid studied and did their homework while in High school.

I want stories of College graduates flipping burgers because they studied hard and did all their homework in College; unbeknownst to them, employers equate their good grades with high socioeconmic status. Therefore, nobody wants to hire them.

And I will prove right now that racisim is embedded in the law. If you have the wrong address, you get a lousy education.

In inner city high schools in poor areas, half of the high school Math teachers don't have college degrees in math fields of any kind.

The lion's share of the high school funding goes to the wealthy surburbs.

Now you prove that Affirmative Action penalizes hard work, and following proper protocol: high school graduates' families struggle to pay for College (the mother has to take 2 jobs, etc) all because their kids did their homework and studied hard.

Some standard you've set...
So, per you, there are no whites living at home or flipping burgers? I suggest you take a drive to a McDonalds and check that out yourself.
If Harvard sets a minimum number for the amount of blacks in each class ( and it does) how do better students NOT get overlooked to allow blacks into the school? The only way that would be possible is if the blacks scored better than the other ethnic grouos..in which case the minimum would not be needed.
