The world series is over. The evil empire prevailed. My beloved Phillies could not
pull it out over the hated Yankees. It's like 2004 all over again and George W. Bush has been relected. Sarah Palin just won the nobel prize for physics. Rush Limbaugh just won the Hart Trophy. Bill O'Reilly just won the Peabody award.

Good doesn't always triumph over evil. Sometimes it takes more than garlic and a stake to the heart to kill Glenn Beck. We will be back next year. We will never stop fighting. We will never give up. Go Phillies. Go Philadelphia.

The Yankees have won their 27th world series. And if I'm not mistaken theres been just over 100 world series, 105 or 106, meaning the Yankees have won the world series on average once every 4 years. Unbelievable franchise.

The first time I came home on leave, I found out that my girlfreind was off with a "freind" of mine(Damn you Jody! Mad). I found out, packed up everything she had given to me put it in a bag & put a pic of my "freind" on top. She opened it up saw it & she got mad!!! Imagine the nerve.

Anyway, her first response was "grow up". I said "I'm having too much fun!".

You guys going back & forth, brought up that memory.

If your idea of "fun" is regurgitating radical left wing talking points you need a hell of a lot more than just a little fun.

South Philly guy talkin' here--the bottom line is that the Phillies gave it their best shot and lost cleanly and honestly. Nothing wrong with that. Now if you want to talk about the SEPTA strike, that's an entirely different matter in every aspect--don't expect me to be too polite about that.

Growing up and having fun--interesting topic that. My Uncle Helmut is a retired engineer and is typical of a lot of engineers--he was good at his job but would have been a mess without his wife. I remember as I grew up that he had a series of hobbies--gardening, birds, trains--but didn't stick with any of them long. But he seemed to have fun.

I'm kind of the same way, but I do have certain hobbies which have stuck with me for decades. And I do consider myself a grown-up, so get your grabasstic juvenile butt off of my lawn yesterday, and take your damn ball with you!

As for sports and Philadelphia, it's too bad the Phillies lost but that's baseball. I'm more of a football fan, but I'm cool on the Eagles right now--get rid of Vick and that might change.

My real game is Army-Navy. The game might not be in Philly this year but dammnit, it's our turn to win...!

My two favorite teams are the Seattle Mariners and whoever is playing the Yankees.

Q. When are whiskey sales cut off at the ballpark?

A. The bottom of the "fifth!"

Yep... and from the last couple of years of investigations (and confessions), we've pretty much figured what that something is...

Now, now Bonesaw, this was a problem across the board. You hatred of Yankees makes you only see it as the Yanks are the only ones.
But hey, don't worry they have an 'injection' for your condition! Razz

Ya know maybe it's me but it was years before i figured out who they were talking about with those Yankees suck bumper stickers and such that you see all over New England.......

I mean I wondered why these yankees would say that about themselves ya know?

Now, coming from the mid west I must admit agreeing with the sentiment as yankees by and large are a strange breed ya know, but to say that you suck was downright wierd!

Then my daughter got interested in base ball, SHAZAMM!!! Lightbulb time dawning of intellligence maybe??

But, I still laugh to myself when I see one of those stickers....very quietly of course........

Really? I thought it was more like watching grass grow. The NBA doesn't interest me (but neither does basketball generally) and I'm losing interest in the NFL--college football is where the game really is. I considered hockey but these days don't have the time to watch it. I guess it comes down to football because, unlike the other sports, I played and enjoyed playing football....

College football? Spend 5 minutes watching Peyton Manning operate an offense and tell me again which is the superior pigskin product...

Baseball's a cerebral game...filled with obscure rules, endless situational settings, and a mathematically perfect infield that's stood the test of time.

The lingo and jargon top anything else in sports, and for most of the last century--ending around the lost world series---the performance enhancing drug of choice was beer.

You gotta know the game, and you gotta have the time to watch baseball to get the joy.

Now go a-way or I shall taunt you a second time!

Yooper, I might agree with your statement more if I were a participant playing the game. Chess is a very cerebral game and if you know what you're looking for can be interesting to watch up to a point--it's not very exciting to watch two old hands play a game for two hours at a park, but if I were one of those players those hours would probably feel like a few minutes.

Don't sell football short in the thinking department either--the coach and quarterback know that anything can happen once the ball is in play, so they do their best to set up the field before the ball is snapped--not a job for dummies.

As for college football you may not see the finesse and expertise that real pros can bring to the game, but you get to see raw talent revealing itself on the field and kids playing their hearts out because they want the recruiters to see them or they just plain love the game.
All sports take some time to understand, but some are more active and easier to watch than others. For me, football has the necessary combination of strategy and tactics and physical action to make it worth watching--baseball doesn't....
