DEAD MEAT - Love, Fate |
The can have donuts, they just have to provide their own. The homes are not prohibiting donuts, they are just not providing them.

First off, according to the article they were DONATED to them (freeby). Second, in the article one of the residents said she was glad the were TAKEN AWAY from them (this is forcing one to comply). I think we all know that too many sweets are not the best of thing for our bodies, but to completely take them away from our elderly is just plain wrong. You may be right about them being able to purchase their own, but then again, they may give everything they have to live in a retirement home, which from what I understand is the norm (take all you have). Thoughts? |

Give them the damn donuts. Haven't they earned them, at this point? It's not like most of them have to worry about the health effects the donuts may have on them 10 or 20 years down the road.
I say supply them with all the free whiskey, beer and smokes they want, too! |

You even try to put me in one of those homes, you'd better call an ambulance first. And if you even THINK about inspecting my pantry, call your funeral director and make sure your friggin' check didn't bounce....

Alas the "Health crusaders" will probably win.
"Give me donuts or give me death" just arent catchy enough to make it as a slogan. "Good is better than bad cause its nicer" Mammy Yokum (as related by Al Capp) |

A free people are free to make errors and choices others might not. That is part of what being free is all about. There are far far too many people out there willing to make you less free, for your own good, naturally.

I thought you were against welfare? |

You assume way too much! I never once said I was completely against welfare, I said it needs to be regulated better as to avoid lifers and abusers; welfare should be availabe to all those with children in need immediatly, only to help parents get back on their feet, if they can not manage to get on their feet with temporary assistance then they need to find alternatives that would be best for the user and their children (family, friends, or foster care with open door policy are alternatives to having children go with out). The only exception should be elderly and dissabled, for they really do not have the ability to work like the rest in many cases (disadvantaged). As for the dontions being taken away, that is not cool, they should be able to get donated goods anytime they want. How would you feel if you were serving abroad in the service and your command decided care packages of any sort are to be banned completly??? Yeah, that would boost moral for sure! I suggest you pull your head out the Liberal box it is in, and realize not all Conservatives are against temperary and necessary help, we just do not like it abused, or the idea of stealing more from others to support someone else, for you get what you EARN not what you can TAKE for FREE! |

"just another morning at the senior center"
If my interpretation of that's correct-- it's not a nursing home, a group home, or even an assisted living facillity--it's basically a communal "hang out" for seniors to get together for activities; they're certainly free to come and go, so they're not depending on the center's staff..... |

My grandmother was in a nursing home and they tryed that with her stash. Needless to say, when about 30 of our family showed up bringing her the stuff she liked, we told the staff anyone trys to take it away again, will answer to our lawyers.
She had no restrictions on diet, and she was 89 years old. She damn well earned and deserves whatever will make her happy. She ate sweets all her life, she never weighed more than 120 pounds, and she was as healthy as any athlete out there. The nurse was complaining but we solved that problem, the saddest part is, most folks dont get to many visitors, but my grandmother did, everyday. She had 9 kids, tons of grand kids and great kids... There was always someone there, and after that, we made sure to check her room to make sure no one messed with her stuff ever again until she died at 94 years old. She outlived 2 of her own kids. NOW that is happy and a long fun life. I hope I can life that long and be as happy.. My being insane, is what makes other people normal. |

No, they haven't. Show me where the US Constitution guarantees a right to consume donuts. Plus, the damn things contribute to obesity, heart disease, etc, and if my med taxes are footing your bill, then I don't want you eating them, no matter how much you think you "deserve" one. |

jw, don't be smart. you know what the point here is. it's about personal freedoms being taken away. it ain't about the donut. it's about freedom. if you're so worried about your taxes, worry about all the illegals getting free benefits. deny a senoir his or her donut? don't be a fool!

No one's stopping the seniors from buying their own donuts, they're just not giving them free donuts. |

If you're concerned about your tax dollars, you should support more donuts for seniors... y'know, kill em off quicker, get em off those Medicaid rolls. |

I wouldn't use donuts; I would have only two things serving food: a snack machine full of blueberry uglies (make a honeybun look like a jollyrancher) and a hamburger stand that serves Hardee's Monster Thickburgers. As far as all the "freedom" crybabies? You have the freedoms that are legally specified and backed by the constitution. You aren't "free" to drive what you want, to shop where you want, to buy what you want, to live where you want. You get to do many of those things because the government lets you, not because you have the right to. |

You've a very skewed outlook on freedom in this country. I guess I'll just continue to be a freedom "crybaby". After all, it's what I protected for all those years.
