Its time for all to actually read the declaration of independance and recommit to the prin****ls that made us the great nation we are.

I agree with you....but I fear the libs will only want to use it for ***wipe. Least that seems to be their use for "Foundation Do***ents" ...look what they are doing/trying to do to the Constitution.

We read it at our annual 4th of July Picnic yesterday, just as we do every year here in ULTRA LIBERAL Northern KALIFORNIA. Kids took turns reading portions of it right before we started our potato sack races, egg toss and balloon toss games. |

Outlaw and SeaWitch, my trusted friends. All one has to do is look at our lawmakers, our medical system, our big oil companies and our leaders in government today and then read the Declaration of Independance and one can see the many flaws in it. Who is looking out for us?

Really Now? Are you sure you understand it? try Reading it again this time with an open mind. And if you really felt this way why arent you serving as a subject of the royal crown? Have you ever wondered what happened to the 56 men who signed the Declaration of Independence? Five signers were captured by the British as traitors, and tortured before they died. Twelve had their homes ransacked and burned. Two lost their sons serving in the Revolutionary Army; another had two sons captured. Nine of the 56 fought and died from wounds or hardships of the Revolutionary War. They signed and they pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor. What kind of men were they? Twenty-four were lawyers and jurists. Eleven were merchants, nine were farmers and large plantation owners: men of means, well educated. But they signed the Declaration of Independence knowing full well that the penalty would be death if they were captured. Carter Braxton of Virginia, a wealthy planter and trader saw his ships swept from the seas by the British Navy. He sold his home and properties to pay his debts and died in rags. Thomas McKeam was so hounded by the British that he was forced to move his family almost constantly. He served in the Congress without pay, and his family was kept in hiding. His possessions were taken from him, and poverty was his reward. Vandals or soldiers looted the properties of Dillery Hall, Clymer, Walton, Gwinett, Heyward, Ruttledge, and Middleton. At the battle of Yorktown, Thomas Nelson, Jr. noted that the British General Cornwallis had taken over the Nelson home for his headquarters. He quietly urged General George Washington to open fire. The home was destroyed, and Nelson died bankrupt. Francis Lewis had his home and properties destroyed. The enemy jailed his wife, and she died within a few months. John Hart was driven from his wife's bedside as she was dying. Their 13 children fled for their lives. His fields and his gristmill were laid to waste. For more than a year he lived in forests and caves, returning to find his wife dead and his children vanished. A few weeks later he died from exhaustion and a broken heart. Norris and Livingston suffered similar fates. Such were the stories and sacrifices of the American Revolution. These were not wild-eyed, rabble-rousing ruffians. They were soft-spoken men of means and education. They had security, but they valued liberty more. Standing tall and straight, and unwavering, they pledged: 'For the support of the declaration, with firm reliance on the protection of the divine providence, we mutually pledge to each other, our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor.' They gave you and me a free and independent America. The history books told you a lot of what happened in the Revolutionary War. We didn't fight just the British. We were British subjects at that time and we fought our own government! Some of us take these liberties so much for granted, but we shouldn't. So take a few minutes while enjoying your 4th of July holiday and silently thank these patriots. It's not much to ask for the price they paid. Remember: Freedom is never free! Unfortunately no one. It is us we the people who have allowed it to degenerate to what is now evident. when someone recieves a precious gift its up to them what condition it is in when passed on. Tarnished, broken, stepped on but non the less a priceless gift That could be restored to mint condition with a lot of determination with half the effort and dangers that the framers Faced. |

Thought about your DA remark. So, as one who supports a strong militay, just how do you propose to fund a strong military. And smart a$$ remarks will get you nowhere. Come on! You raised the issue. Inform us how not wanting to pay taxes will benefit us. Come on!! |

Lighten up, dude. Why do all liberals fail to appreciate humor? Especially when they think their cash cows are gonna stampede. To answer your question....if the gov. would eliminate all the support given to worthless endeavors (NEA, etc.) there would be enough money to fund legitimate programs. Besides the only action the libs and dims believe in is to raise taxes, increase regulation, and throw money at real and imagined problems. Taxes may be a necessary evil but one must remember .... "the power to tax is the power to destroy." ...and the socialist libs and dims are trying really hard to do just that in every way possible. I'm of the opinion that if BO gets elected it wont be long before those that voted for him will be denying it.....that and we'll all be longing for the good ol' days of GW. But somehow I still have a lil bit of faith in the sheeple of this country...hopefully they arent completely brain dead yet.

The Declaration of Independance was a challenge. In the day it was equivilant to "bring it on." Much more learned and elequent though.
The British Empire did "bring it on" attacking the terrorists and traitors in the colonies. The revolting colonists won and founded America. |
