"Bowlers have BIG balls!"

"Oops, my bad" is what Powell should be saying, but probably realizes it would only go over like a turd in a punch bowl.

POWELL 1996: I became a Republican because I believe, like you, that the federal government has become too large and too intrusive in our lives. We can no longer... (applause) We can no longer afford solutions to our problems that result in more entitlements, higher taxes to pay for them, more bureaucracy to run them, and fewer results to show for it. (applause)

POWELL 2009: Well, first, let me say, that was a pretty good statement, I thought. And I believe in all those things. But I also believe that we should have a government that works. I don't like slogans anymore like "limited government." That's not the right answer. The right answer is, give me a government that works. Keep it as small as possible. Keep the tax burden on the American people as small as possible, but at the same time, have government that is solving the problems of the people.

The republican party would do well by listening to people like Colin Powell as opposed to Rush Limbaugh...no question.

Well, here is what Powell is saying now.

"I'm concerned at the number of programs that are being presented, the bills associated with these programs and the additional government that will be needed to execute them"

He says far more in the article. But, what I am really thinking is that he fell for the tremendous media campaign that Obama ran and now he is having second guesses. Hmph, No crap. Give it another year or two and even the Obamamaniacs will be wondering what in the hell they were thinking.

Here is the story...

IMHO..., I just don't think the LIBS are gonna listen to any facts..., their minds are made up.

Obama will "provide" for them...

What D meant to say was: I am unable to address the point of this thread..therefore I will take the very lazy way out of creating another strawman.

I'm sure the General is grateful beyond measure to have the local neorethuglicontrarians still speaking for him after King Cheney banished him to wither in the cold, lightless shadow of the Big Fat Liar in Chief.

Perhaps you missed Section 8 of the US Constitution.
"The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes, duties, imposts and excises, to pay the debts and provide for the common defense and general welfare of the United States; but all duties, imposts and excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;"

That means it's one of the accepted roles of government to help provide for the common good - things that individuals do not possess the financial or material means to accomplish alone. Matters such as our schools, transportation system, communications, ect - matters that our founding fathers knew all too well not to trust in the hands of robber barons.
