I just came from the local polling place where I exercised my right to vote for a 44 year-old candidate for City Commissioner whom I've know for 44 years, and to raise my taxes by 1/2 a mil to support meals for seniors.

If my will prevails, I'll have a friend on the City Commission, and 48,000 meals will be served for 50 bucks per 100,000 of assessed valuation.

If my will doesn't prevail, I'll have a friend spared the misery of fending off the anarchists and secessionists who want to facilitate change by non-constitutional means, and my taxes won't go up.

This is one great %$@#^^&ing country.

In my city here in NC, we elected our first Republican Mayor since the reconstruction.

I hear a lot of people here are unhappy with the type of change that the government is pushing.

The locals re-elected all the incumbents--my buddy's off the hook this year, but I'm saving the campaign signs for two years down the road.

The millage passed by more than 2 to 1.

The mayor (running unopposed and on a nonpartisan ticket) received 95 percent against the write-ins--about par for the course in this small town.

No change in leadership, and the citizens raised their own property taxes. I'm not sure what inferences may be drawn, but there were no surprises.
