I like to fight fire... with gasoline... |
Well, at least they stopped the ridiculous SUV tax break. Now, if they would only RETURN the tax break for fuel efficient vehicles... |

Now there's a plan ... while we are at it, how about one that limits house size based on family size ... say 750 SF per person. Bet we could mandate regulators on A/C and central heat too. One temp summer, one temp winter. Personally, I'd like to see the driving age raised to 18 for a novice license, 21 for a full license. Now THAT would save some gas. BTW, if politicians really want to help out the truly needy with their gas expenditures, rather than the silly idea of a "gas tax holiday", they might want to explore the concept of gas stamps ... akin to food stamps ... with a need-based criteria. I'd rather see a welfare-based solution than government intervention in individual choice. |

They are massively overbloated, and handle like a pregnant blueback, in comparison to a Yukon or comparable American SUV. I absolutely DETEST having to test drive one after one of techs has done repairs on one of the POSs. And with my upper echelon clientel? Many of the self-absorbed (delusional) own the damn things. The philosophy of "proprietary arrogance" has meant that parts for the damned things are monumentally expensive, and repairs cost MUCH more than they should. Example? Tire size: Landrover used a 255/55R18, which no one else did. When Honda, BMW, Subaru, etc started building SUVs using that size? Landrover wanted an "exclusive" size, and then went to 255/55R19. Effect? MUCH smaller selection of tires, in MUCH smaller runs, which means that your size price shatters the ceiling. The Suburban/Tahoe/Yukon makes MUCH better sense, from the perspective of price, reliability, cost of repairs, maintenance, drivability, etc, etc, etc. You want a symbol of senseless conspicuous consumption? Buy a POS Landrover. This message has been edited. Last edited by: thanatos2, |

Why not take your self-appointed elitest concept to its conclusion, and pass a law demanding "worthiness" of continued polution of the planet, and kill off every individual who cannot substantiate a "reasonable" case for their continued life? |

Sell my tundra for scrap!!! Not as long as there is still one American Farmer left alive I won't have to. Besides they will be in demand when we have to move our underground around from target to target. |

And I will say again, in the REAL world - as opposed to some internet source - they will cost you MORE THAN $30,000.00.
http://www.oswegoluxury.com/cgi-bin/showroom.cgi?d_id=9...late&template=video2 "Start at" gets you through the front door; selling price is not the same thing. |

I think there must be a distinct difference between the North American spec Discovery (by the way do your gripes also apply to the present model Disco and what about the Range Rover/ Sport?) and the UK version then because most of the gripes you level at them could quite easily be aimed at the massive Suburbans and Hummers we get imported over here. As for "overbloated" - even the Disco III is smaller and lighter than most US suvs isn't it and we think that's bloody huge and too heavy at 2.75 tonnes. That said the spec differences are a minefield with the Ford Focus (the Mk 1 at least) being a classic example. It was lauded as the best handling car in it's class (and better than many in other classes) in Europe when first released because of the independent rear suspension and generally improved dynamics. Yet everybody (myself included) who then drove the US version found it disappointing despite the bigger engines. As for tyres? I suspect it's a Transatlantic issue, a mate of mine runs a Ford dealership and was trying to source tyres (and brake pads, the Ford US ones were unsafe) for a Mustang and was finding it difficult - none of the Euro equivalents fitted properly. Mind you, only the £40,000 HSE version of the Disco III runs on R19s over here, the others are R18s. I agree though that it's for no better reason than skinning the customers at replacement time - Landie dealers are notoriously dear, which is why there is a thriving trade in OEM and surplus parts. |

There has been a lot of talk like that lately.. Things must really be screwed around here (aka the good ole USA) for this sort of discussion to keep coming up in thread after thread. |

Okay, I have to ask. What are you smoking today? Can I have some too? Smart Fortwo Passion Car Starts at $13,590.
http://www.smartusa.com/smart-fortwo-passion.aspx If you cannot live without feeling the breeze on your head and am a Cabriolet person, you can get the Passion Cabriolet which starts at $16,590. http://www.smartusa.com/smart-fortwo-cabriolet.aspx If the Pure Passion is too much car, you can always get the Pure which starts at $11,590. http://www.smartusa.com/smart-fortwo-pure.aspx Do the math and tell me where in God's name you came up with that number. I've researched it for use as a local car to stop the bleeding. |

This Yamaha XS1100SG is how I hope to cut my gas consumption rather than using my Dodge RAM all Summer and Fall.
Safety? What's that? I doubt I would do well if hit by an F-150. Don |

Step away from the bottle. I just spec'd out a fully loaded Pure and TMV is = to sticker which is $15,215. A fully loaded Passion = $17,000. A fully loaded Cabriolet = $19,500. How'd you get to $30k? http://www.edmunds.com/smart/fortwo/2008/index.html#sea...nf12%7C%7C736d617274 |

Interesting, the top of the range Fourtwo is £9,020 (about $20,000US) brand new on the road, now bearing in mind that our new car tax, road tax and VAT are much, much higher than yours someone is really taking the piss asking $30,000 for a Smart even if you add the entire options list. Maybe I've finally found something that's cheaper in Britain than the US ($17,000 for a four year old Mini Cooper with 40k seems a bit steep as well from anywhere but a main dealer). Hooray, |

That is a farce. The Smart Car in the US isn't anywhere near $30k. |
