Each day I will post various remarks from our Founders on
what they thought about on various subjects. Since our inception as a country it seems, at least to me America looks very different today than then. Many of their beliefs shaped the beginning. In many respects we have set ourselves up for collapse from within. Not from all people, but from those who wish America to change it's face or to fail outright. It is because of the latter that I decided to launch this series. Please feel free to discuss these remarks that were made so long ago. I believe this information is very important, especially for the military since they are the armed protectors of our nation, the front lines of our defense and as to our very survival as a nation in this world. Day 16: Patriotism Rush, Benjamin letter to His Fellow Contrymen: On Patriotism October 20, 1773 Topic: Patriotism Patriotism is as much a virtue as justice, and is as necessary for the support of societies as natural affection is for the support of families. Warren, Joseph Boston Massacre Oration March 6, 1775 Topic: Patriotism Our country is in danger, but not to be despaired of. Our enemies are numerous and powerful; but we have many friends, determining to be free, and heaven and earth will aid the resolution. On you depend the fortunes of America. You are to decide the important question, on which rest the happiness and liberty of millions yet unborn. Act worthy of yourselves. Washington, George General Orders August 23, 1776 Topic: Patriotism The hour is fast approaching, on which the Honor and Success of this army, and the safety of our bleeding Country depend. Remember officers and Soldiers, that you are Freemen, fighting for the blessings of Liberty - that slavery will be your portion, and that of your posterity, if you do not acquit yourselves like men. Washington, George General Orders July 2, 1776 Topic: Patriotism Our own Country's Honor, all call upon us for a vigorous and manly exertion, and if we now shamefully fail, we shall become infamous to the whole world. Let us therefore rely upon the goodness of the Cause, and the aid of the supreme Being, in whose hands Victory is, to animate and encourage us to great and noble Actions - The Eyes of all our Countrymen are now upon us, and we shall have their blessings, and praises, if happily we are the instruments of saving them from the Tyranny mediated against them. Let us therefore animate and encourage each other, and shew the whole world, that a Freeman contending for Liberty on his own ground is superior to any slavish mercenary on earth. Washington, George upon fumbling for his glasses before delivering the Newburgh Address March 15, 1783 Topic: Patriotism Gentlemen, you will permit me to put on my spectacles, for, I have grown not only gray, but almost blind in the service of my country. Washington, George letter to the Legislature of Pennsylvania September 5, 1789 Topic: Patriotism It should be the highest ambition of every American to extend his views beyond himself, and to bear in mind that his conduct will not only affect himself, his country, and his immediate posterity; but that its influence may be co-extensive with the world, and stamp political happiness or misery on ages yet unborn. Washington, George Farewell Address 1796 Topic: Patriotism The name of American, which belongs to you, in your national capacity, must always exalt the just pride of Patriotism, more than any appellation derived from local discriminations. Washington, George Farewell Address September 19, 1796 Topic: Patriotism Guard against the impostures of pretended patriotism. Adams, John letter to Benjamin Rush April 18, 1808 Topic: Patriotism Our obligations to our country never cease but with our lives. Madison, James letter to James Monroe December 16, 1824 Topic: Patriotism The eyes of the world being thus on our Country, it is put the more on its good behavior, and under the greater obligation also, to do justice to the Tree of Liberty by an exhibition of the fine fruits we gather from it. Jefferson, Thomas letter to Thomas Jefferson Smith February 21, 1825 Topic: Patriotism Love your neighbor as yourself and your country more than yourself. Our Founders Thoughts Day 15: Virtue Socialism: Does it Fit Mankind? |

Ubi est mea anaticula cumminosa? Volo anaticulam cumminosam meam! |
Afraid that Patriotism and Honor are in very short supply in today's world. Way too much of the what's in it for me mind set.

Agreed. It will be the country's downfall from within. All we have to do is just listen to the moaning. A sad, sad state of decline.
