Companies begin quest for oil, gas off Florida

The early activity here stems from a 2006 Congressional compromise that allows drilling on 8.3 million acres more than 125 miles off the Panhandle — an area that had been covered by the moratorium, which was enacted out of environmental concerns. In exchange, the state got a no-drilling buffer along the rest of its beaches.

What I find really interesting is that this was passed in 2006, and yet who is moving on the change?

quote:
In March, four companies — Australia-based BHP Billiton Petroleum Deepwater Inc., Houston-based Anadarko E&P Co., Shell Offshore Inc. and Italian oil and natural gas company Eni SpA — purchased leases on 36 Gulf of Mexico tracts under the 2006 compromise.

Yes that is right, three foreign companies that I am sure will be getting at a very reasonable price.

Link.

Perhaps you might want to check here, David U.

Looks as if Chevron, AMOCO and Gulfstar have already been busy.

Peter

I am pretty sure these were grandfathered from before the moratorium.

I see your point "D" and I agree. But what I find strange is the fact Fl. will not allow for any of the other coastline to be drilled. But they can do nothing about Cuba and China drilling just mere miles away...... Being it is taking place, why not allow for domestic companies to drill also? Are they afraid that some old fart can see a rig over the horizon?

They can't do anything about it because they aren't drilling.

Yes, and as we all know, Ice Road Truckers are the premier authority on the location of oil.

Quite true, they were.

And a 2001 article states that they have found petroleum! Just not in viable quantities. Destin Dome Has New Objectives

I also find it interesting that the one who put the moratorium on drilling was Bush, Sr!

No, let's invade Mexico, and break it up into a couple of states. It's much closer than Iraq. Big Grin

We don't have to invade Mexico. We just have to stop that silly nonsense about defending our borders and start calling El Presidente by his rightful name.

In ANWAR, there are places where the oil is seeping onto the surface of the ground. You don't need to guess, you can pick up the tar thats left after the volitals evaporate. What do you want to bet those truckers can't lead you to such a spot?

Or the Eskimos?

Never underestimate those who have lived there for decades.
