...On the eve of war, there were discussions of the likely costs. Larry Lindsey, President Bush's economic adviser and head of the National Economic Council, suggested that they might reach $200 billion. But this estimate was dismissed as “baloney” by the Defence Secretary, Donald Rumsfeld. His deputy, Paul Wolfowitz, suggested that postwar reconstruction could pay for itself through increased oil revenues. Mitch Daniels, the Office of Management and Budget director, and Secretary Rumsfeld estimated the costs in the range of $50 to $60 billion, a portion of which they believed would be financed by other countries. (Adjusting for inflation, in 2007 dollars, they were projecting costs of between $57 and $69 billion.) The tone of the entire administration was cavalier, as if the sums involved were minimal. Even Lindsey, after noting that the war could cost $200 billion, went on to say: “The successful prosecution of the war would be good for the economy.” In retrospect, Lindsey grossly underestimated both the costs of the war itself and the costs to the economy. Assuming that Congress approves the rest of the $200 billion war supplemental requested for fiscal year 2008, as this book goes to press Congress will have appropriated a total of over $845 billion for military operations, reconstruction, embassy costs, enhanced security at US bases, and foreign aid programmes in Iraq and Afghanistan. As the fifth year of the war draws to a close, operating costs (spending on the war itself, what you might call “running expenses”) for 2008 are projected to exceed $12.5 billion a month for Iraq alone, up from $4.4 billion in 2003, and with Afghanistan the total is $16 billion a month. Sixteen billion dollars is equal to the annual budget of the United Nations, or of all but 13 of the US states. Even so, it does not include the $500 billion we already spend per year on the regular expenses of the defense Department.... |

LOL! Blind faith is comforting, ain't it? With all the "misinformation" from this dishonest crew, we know that they told the truth about that, eh? Anyone with at least 3 sparking braincells can see thru their bankrupt BS. "Never try to teach a pig to sing; It wastes your time and annoys the pig." - Heinlein |

Well, it would sure help if the UN coutries, especially NATO, would chip in with some dollars and manpower. Why is the American taxpayer paying for us to be their protectors?

NATO's supposedly chipping in to rebuild the country. But that might depend on how much 'rebuilding' has been necessitated. 'Protectors' from what? Iraqi insurgents, Shias .. AQ's been defeated, right? |

Different strokes for different folks.
We rebuilt Germany and Japan....for those that don't know the details or cost increase.....don't you think they had rebels back then? Some have the chance and have taken it to go down in the book of life as Brave, Glorified Infantry warriors. Some have ran, quit, not joined, not followed orders, looked down on such brave opportunity that they themselves could have been blessed with to stop evil hand to hand, and more that the brave front line ones of us volunteered for. There have been battles in the area our country is in to suppress evil For centuries. Although we did not ask for evil to raise up in the area we are in to Give shelter and support to they ones we seek to suppress. The opportunity of brave men to get in the historical book of infantry Life is there now for them. Some look at it as fruitless and wasteful. I pity them and their short of wit to the over all picture and the lack of Seeing the young daughters of families fall from windows and die in fire. I pity the ones that put a price on the need to suppress the ones that seek To build in numbers and be strong enough to do more of the same. You retarded and simple cowards at heart should go home and lock yourselves in a closet, waiting for the people in white jackets to put you an a place where they can tell you it’s time to take a dump and a shower. God's Speed and Glory to those that seek and know the Glory of it all. God Bless the ones that have givin all and those that see the True Honor of it all to help keep the peace and save their homeland from threat. Thank You. All The Way INFANTRY AIRBORNE |
