I am looking at a job as a corrections officer with the county jail. I've heard that the turn over rate is huge, that they'll hire anyone with a pulse and so on, but I've also heard it is very hard to get into LE work. My discharge is 10 years old, so I can show I've been good for 10 years, plus my whole life before the military. I had joined the military with the intent of getting into LE, but quickly became disenchanted with what I was actually doing, I had all but given up on ever getting into LE after the discharge, but recently I've heard so much about LE agencies lowering their standards and even recruiting on the other side on the country to find people. This agencie has been recruiting for over a year and keeps stepping up recruitment. Can anyone tell me if they've ever gotten hired with this kind of discharge, or know of anyone? I need the money. I've never done drugs, or committed ANY crimes. My only sin is not liking the military and getting released early.

I have worked with applicant investigations when we are hiring large classes of recruits. We have found inconsistent military discharge information:

One from a select group of soldiers may have been rated lower because he/she was from a competitive grouping-specialist vrs cook.

Standards are not similar from one commander to another. One squadron may blink at an infraction, while another squadron may seek discharge for the same offense.

Many military requirements are not transferable to public service; no one LE gets an Art. 15 for not wearing a hat.

Lastly, the codes change frequently and many interviewers do not attempt to interpret them.

Most agencies simply seek an Honorable discharge. Don't sell yourself short. I believe you have earned the right to the position of correction officer.
