I'm a BM2 on the BM1 list and I just submitted my package. Been doing LE my whole career and I am currently the LEPO and WEPS at a Station in FL. Trying to get a feel for who's applying to lateral. Let's hear your Rate/Rank and LE background. Also what type of job are you looking for next?

I'm with ya... even though you're a red sox fan. I'm an OS1 and have also done LE my whole career with the exception of last year. A pretty broad background in all types of boardings.
I just routed my package up my chain this week and it should be sitting on my division officers desk as we speak.
As for the job i'm looking for next... well that would be any job as an ME1 Wink But more specifically I'd like to do another 378 out of here... if not that then a station or TACLET.

Good luck, I assume your lateral package is for an ME1 position?

If I don't make BM1 by 01 Jan than apparently I will go on the ME1 advancement list. I've also heard that if your above the cut for a SWE list that you will lateral at the next higher paygrade, I have not gotten a definative answer. It's all the same to me though, hopefully they take me, I'm excited to potentially be a part of a brand new rate in the Coast Guard.

Brechty,
I'm also an OS1 with an extensive LE background and I'll be submitting my package as well, but I've been told by a "little birdy" that the detailer will instantly deny our request for lateral. It is then, if not enought AD E6's (for exaple) submit a request, the detailer will have no choice but to let us go. Just food for thought...

Yeah I've heard the same thing... but all unofficially. The way I see it is there shouldn't be much of an issue since i'm still required to complete the rest of my tour here (3.80 years) and if the OS rating cant support my loss by then, it never will, besides they shouldn't expect me to stay much longer since thats close to my RELAD date. And if all else fails, there is always "A" school.

I'm putting my request in. Hopefully i'll be coming with you. I don't have much Coast Guard LE experience, but I have six years of civilian experience and training before I came back into active duty. I'm a BM1, so I don't know what the BM detailers are saying. I like you Bretchy still have 3 years at my current duty station. I keeping my fingers crossed, not sure how many are going to apply. I'm just hoping they will take civilian law enforcement experience into consideration.

I turned in my lateral package last night and got a confirmation email that it was received this morning. I would rather do that job than keep working on 40+ year old ships. Plus I have 6 years in the LE field and only 1 1/2 years as a MK. Oh, i'm putting in as a MK1.

I've seem and talked to several people who are putting in lateral packages who have no law enforcement experience and can barely handle a weapon.

How long have the ME EPQ's been on the learning portal? Quite a while now.

It seems to me that if I wanted to change rates over to ME I would put in quite a bit of time and effort to become more proficient in the tasks listed in the EPQ's. I don't think I would just waste my time and the selection board's time by throwing something together at the last second.

I won't be joining you guys as a ME. I like being a BO but I don't want that to be my only job. The best of luck to you all.

Guns,
I think you're right. I'm not sure too many people take it seriously, making sure they can be proficient in the rate they plan on lateraling to. I think weapons proficiencies are going to be huge since it seems when you make ME1 you are expected to be an SAI... which, and correct me if I'm wrong, you should consistently qualify SS prior to going to SAI school.

Guns;
You would think so wouldn't you? I can give you a long damned list of poeple who changed ratings 1 july 2003 who still haven't made an effort to learn their new EPQs! Big Grin

Let's see. BM1 here that hasn't done a real BM1 job in the last, oh almost 10 yrs. Hoping to lateral over. Past units have been MSST, TACLET South, and ITD. I was a BO and asst. LEPO at Station NY for 3yrs and a BTM at my first unit on a 180. Now I'm on the METT out here in beautiful Bahrain.

I picked up some training at Pre-deployment training for PATFORSWA, Basic and Advanced Tactical EMT from H&K, plus some other stuff.

Hoping to stay in the Hampton Roads area, but it all depends on where the wife wants to go. I don't want to waste my priority one. Good luck everyone.

I believe they are already accepting people for the A school. If you look at the A school list they have how many seats are available.

I'm interested in lateraling to ME but one of the requirements is NORMAL COLOR VISION. I dont quite understand this, since i've been doing LE for the past 12 Years as an MK with no problems.
