Since everyone is talking about good books about the coast guard, i would suggest "Ice Brothers". its about cutters like the Storis doing Iceland patrols in WW2. My new captain and I are former Storis sailors and have throughly enjoyed this book.
You guys failed to mention the Coast Guard's legendary battle with Emilio Largo alongside Her Majesty's Secret Agent 007, as reenacted in the film "Thunderball".
Bad Boys II (MH-68s, HH-60s, HH-65s, and a 210') Captain Ron (110') Perfect Storm (210') Deja Vu (HH-65, 25') Yours, Mine, and Ours (378') One Flew Over the Cokoos Nest (old CG helo) Top Gun (another older CG helo) Clear and Present Danger (110') I Am Legend (HH-65)
And of course good Ole CG is a regular on CSI: Miami.
I have "The Light Keepers Son" and "Torpedo Junction". However, I would highly recommend two other works of fiction by noted author Sloan Wilson who himself was a Coastie. He wrote two phenominal fiction books about the Coast Guard in WW2. One is "THE ICE BROTHERS" about the Greenland Patrol in WW2 and the other is "PACIFIC INTERLUDE" about the Coast Guard manned crews of army Aviation gas tankers in WW2. Both very good reading.
Peter Benchley's "The Island" (movie with Peter Caine) featured a Big White One that was taken over by pirates until Caine wasted them with a Ma Deuce.
The should make a movie about a small boat station. Especially surf or something. Maybe even do a movie for our LE side like the MSST's. Bad Boys II didn't get it right.
Oh and don't forget about that comedy where Goldie Hawn loses her memory and is forced to believe she is poor and married to that other guy. They show a long scene with an 82'
