Is anybody here stationed at the Search and Rescue Detachment in Grand Marais, Minnesota? I didn't realize that it was a SAR station until I looked through the boating regulation handbook the other day.
I have to wonder... how many calls does that station get? And is that small boat outside the only vessel they have? I've only seen one Coastie out there all the times that I've walked by. He was working on the motor of the boat. This is something that I've wondered about for years. Thanks. |

They used to stay there on 2 week shifts from Sta Duluth. Just the Cox'n, crewman and an engineer. Good duty if you wanted to relax. Not sure what the rotation is now. I ran the cableboat up there in '93 to take the cable out of the PH main light

Ok, thanks for replying. I think that would be a fun station- even if it might get a little slow. I love it up there.

The station is a Search and Rescue Detachement (SARDET). It is maned seasonally by members of Station Duluth. There are no permanent billets there. The current rotation is 4 man crew for one week rotations. The SAR load isn't great, but you do get some hairy cases every now and then. Great place to work on advancement tests.
Also, check out the post under the CG History thread for some old station photos. North Superior pics This message has been edited. Last edited by: a47mlb, |
