Well they might in the civilian sector like an airliner or something, but the Coast Guard is not a 9-5 Mon to Fri job. Like 21Yrs said, it depends on if their duty section has duty on the weekend. While we are on the subject....What in the world is a weekend? Big Grin

I have yet to hear of an Aviation unit that does not have sliders. In aviation, sliders are 2 day weekends no matter if you have duty on saturday or sunday. That's right you can still have a full weekend even if you have duty sunday. How is this? Well, It's called the slider (enter real men of genius music) A slider is a weekday, a monday or friday usually that takes the place of a saturday or sunday. So if I have duty saturday, I get off sunday and monday. If I have duty sunday. I get off friday and saturday.

So yes, You get the weekends off in Aviation. At least I do!

I hear so much self loathing in the Coast Guard.the fact is It's a good job, it's really not all that tough to do a good job at. Though some people would like you to believe that they single handedly built the pyramids by enlisting in the Coast Guard. I even hear people complaining about the work on a 378 as a non-rate. I did that. Nothing compared to 12 hours days in a cabbage field. Physcally demanding, mentally numbing, orthopedically horrible for you, and no site of advancement, Or a shift in the foundry I worked for. Try working on a punch press. it's not that hard, but after 7 days, you'll know why they give you those gloves that pull your hands out....because you'd smash yourself on purpose that stuff is so boring.

There is currently a bill within Congress to make it illegal for anyone to participate in any activity that would/could put them in a situation where they may need any Government service to provide rescue support to those individuals on weekends or legal holidays.

This will allow all SAR bases to shut down on weekends and holidays and will save millions.

God Bless the USA!!

Sorry....couldn't help myself..... Big Grin

When I was the BM2 at Airsta TVC it was great to have Saturday duty then get Sunday/Monday off. I would then take leave for Tuesday thru Thursday and then next duty was Sunday so you got Friday off. 3 days leave combined gave you 7 full days off. I did it every other month. Used to PO the MKC, but he got over it! Ha!

Yep, it ran the Base's Opfac...Now it's under Gru, I mean Sector Soo, under the command of the Buckthorn...The profile wouldn't let me add it along w/ an 8th Dist cutter the Point Hope (WPB-82302), the oldest 82' that didn't go to Nam, so I had to put down Sta Sabine pass, Tx the homeport...
Typical Gub-a Mint. Smile
