I heard a few weeks ago that you guys are out cutting the ice in Duluth Harbor already... Isn't it still a bit thick? The last I heard was 30-some inches. I saw a live aerial feed of a cutter just past the lift-bridge... from the cutter's speed I was not entirely convinced it was video footage. How's the weather otherwise?
I heard the Locks were open and the season started. And I agree that that's not what ships are for. It just seemed early-- maybe because it was raining freezing slush the day they aired that footage. Though now that I think about it the ice in the Artic is deeper than 30 inches and cutters still cut through it... I'll think it through a bit more before I post such a question next time. Maybe I'm just jealous... My kayak is still surrounded by 3 feet of accumulated snow-drift and shoveling and the cover is frozen to the ground. Any way I can draft behind the cutter?
I talked to you a few months ago about CGS Duluth and SARDET North Superior. I thought of you when I saw the news coverage, but I guess it was more a general question to anyone in the area.
