Does anyone have any info regarding replacing the old style SAR folders? Not only are they still using DOT as their heading but the 41 on the cover? Not to mention having a more "user friendly" / updated version of the info gathered within. Confused

the folders are very out of date. at my station we dont even use them any more. everything is now done and kept in MISLE. all the little boxes in the folder are for special codes and what not.

We are no longer using SAR folders at all. Everything is scanned and attached to the MISLE case. If you want some of the Atlantic Area SAR folders, I can probably get you some. Shoot me an email, I'm in global.

I'm old fashioned and like the folders. What I have done at my last two stations was draft up a template in Microsoft Publisher as to what I wanted the SAR folder to look like, and with the information I thought was important. I then sent it out to the local Government Printing Office and had them do me up a bundle of them. We also do an L/E case folder. I am in the global, shoot me an e-mail and I can send you the templates.

The old SAR folders are clearly out of date. Nothing says you cannot create a new folder and adapt it to your unit's standards. The key to ensuring its success is including the QRCs and all the proper check sheets. the STAN team looks for these type of things when reviewing case files. If they don't find a properly filled out QRC then you will get a gig. Even though we scan a majority of the documents into Misle we still keep a paper copy as we all know these networks are not 100% reliable.

At our unit we are trying to phase those out. Trying to go all digital and put it in missle. We keep a log of the cases in a folder in our files.

Well we have gone paperless (well kind of). We don't have a hard copy file for any cases. Everything is scanned into MISLE. We have a one page check sheet for the case to make sure the case review is completed and everything is closed out correctly.

I don't miss the folders. It takes some time to train everyone to do it correctly but once everyone is up to speed it is awesome.

Sounds like it might be nice for someone to suggest to CG-534 to provide a new version of that folder (which is actually a form) to the CG Forms manager (CG-611).

http://www.uscg.mil/forms/

Actually, I'm of the mind that the folder should be relabeled an Incident Folder and tailored for all mission categories. That would be more in step with the intentions of the Sector Org Manual 5401.6 and CC Manual 2120.20. Of course, that means doctrine and policy would have to be in step with each other and CG-741 and CG-534 would have to clear the new form.
