If there was anything that could cure a person of the Christmas spirit, it was lutifisk, something that I tried once but did not inhale... Wink
By the way, authorities are now attributing the cause of the bridge collapse to advanced corrosion exasurbated by the effects of years of pidgeon poop accumulation.
The horrible fish is the subject of much lore. My in-laws made some very yummy dishes of it. Best if smothered with white sauce and a mustard drizzle. Seconds? You-bet! Well a guy could eat some more!
Possibly the corrosion was magnified by the pigeons eating lutifisk leftovers?
Seriously though, our hearts go out to the families who lost loved ones in the collapse. We are pretty lucky so few were lost compared to how many were on the bridge.

I live in Mahtomedi- the town no one in the state has ever heard of unless they lived in or right around it. I've been through Oakdale a lot... whenever my friend and I don't do what to do we drive all over the place, usually to Oakdale or North St Paul.
Lutifisk? Happy to say I've never eaten it. It's soda bread and potatoes in my family. However, I did try a little plain herring and hated it... placing me further and further away from ever wanted to try lutifisk.
A leak in the de-icing system is being blamed for the corrosion last I heard... though the fish may have played a part. But get this: they want to use the same system in the new bridge! Apparently we haven't learned anything from the collapse. Will one more do it?

My dad lives in Birchwood right next door. In fact, I drove through Mahtomedi a few weeks ago when I was home. I used to zip in and out of there a lot.
