hey all , my name is Raul and im thinking of joining the coast guard. what i would really love to do would most likely be S.A.R . but im worried that my score in the ASVAB could effect me. does any one know if it could or if what i would need to score to do this or something similar to it. ? would greatly appreciate it if someone would help me out a bit here. Thanks in advance.

A recruter will be able to look at your ASVAB scores and see which ratings you qualify for. good luck!!

What part of SAR interests you? There's a lot that goes into SAR. Are you interested in SAR planning? Operations Specialist might be for you. Do you want to drive the boats and be part of the crew that recover SAR victims? Boatswain Mate might be for you. Do you want to jump off helicopters? Avaition Survival Tech. might be for you. Lots of different job titles that are involved in SAR.

Join up and see what every one does. You don't have to pick a job when you enlist. Take your time see what every job has in store and what best fits you. The best way to figure out what you want to do is during your non-rate time. This will also give you the opportunity to study and retake the ASVAB so you can get the job you want.

Hey, hey???....NEVER forget your MK's who make sure the boat gets there. Not to mention going aboard the boat needing assistance. Wink

Don,

I agree with you on that! I've never met an EN/MK that I didn't appreciate. They have kept me operational many times.

I'll buy a round for any snipe. Beer

I would suggest that EVERYONE plays a part, just some more visable than others!

If the SK doesn't get the parts, the boat stays broken...
If the YN doesn't make sure you have money to feed your family, your head won't be in the game...
If the FS doesn't keep you fed and energized, you won't be at your best...

No need to list everybody as those are likely the folks many don't think about.

...and a QB without a good offensive line, WRs and RBs is nothing but an obscure name on the injured reserve list! Big Grin

I would say the OS's are the Coach to the football team. Tell the Coxswains what plays to make, a lot of responsibility in many shapes and forms, and we play in the background behind the scenes hashing it all out usuing the most effective strategies to score that touchdown (save that life) Razz

Sorry just felt OS were left out hehe
