Basic Training |
William D. Hickey and I were in boot camp together, arriving at Great Lakes NTC, February of 1960.
Walking the mid watch “dumpster watches” in the bitter cold and snow was a lot easier with Bill’s great humor along with us. After boot camp, I didn’t see him again until I'd graduated from A school and I was a sonarman assigned to the USS Stribling (DD867). I was pleasantly surprised when, during a refueling at sea, the bridge messenger informed me that someone on the oiler wanted to talk to me via the SP phone hookup. It was my buddy Bill and that was the last time I talked to him. I would so much like to renew our friendship before we log out for the last time. Any info about this great guy whom I should have contacted years ago would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much, Jim Cox |
