Master CPO Newlee was last seen on NAS Agana, Guam, circa 1962. He may be retired in Calif, near Los Angles, or Northern SDGO.
Must be in his 80s by now. Chief Newlee mentored and guided this PO1 to success after arriving on Guam, in the late 50s. He was a real work horse, smart and brooked no nonsense. We, family and I, owe this one. Please leave PERSPEC message on line at MIL.com if u have information.

Hi!
My name is Doug Newlee and my father is Arthur M. Newlee. I saw your post and wanted to respond to you. Yes, my father was a Master CPO and he was transferred from Guam in 1962 to Point Mugu, NAS, Ventura County, California which is about 45 minutes Northwest of Los Angeles. I was born on Guam in 1962 but have no recollection there, obviously. My father retired from the Navy in 1966 or 1967. He still lives in Ventura County (City of Ventura). However, due to his age (Age 86), he is living in an assisted-care facility here in Ventura, about 3 miles from my home.
I would love to hear from you and discuss his duties in Guam and anything else you would like to know.
Hope to hear from you soon!
Best Wishes!
Doug Newlee

dougnewlee..
Hello,,
Your Dad was my VW1 MCM mentor and friend. We, my wife, son and I, lived on the NAS AGANA base housing. We always referred to your Dad as ABLE MABEL, (behind his back of course), as he was the LCPO and Div CPO for the Avionics Dept.
Your two brothers were around 5, and 7 at the time.
One event that I am sure your Mom will remember, was the trip your parents took to Japan. This was around 1961, before your birth. We baby sat for the younger brother for some 2 or 3 weeks. Chief Newlee took great care of his troops. During a Typhoon alert in 61. he insured my family had water, tie downs and food. I was off hunting the typhoon at the time
My personal relationship with Chief Newlee was as a budding PO1 seeking to make CPO. He helped me with beoming a leader, a CPO and eventually a WO.
My memories of his work and stature are immense.

Will look for the e mail source and further postings

Larry,
Sorry to take so long to respond to you!
I told my mother, Billye, about how you have been looking for my father. She said she remembers you, but can't think of your name.
About 6 weeks ago, my father fell at his residence and spent over 5 weeks in the hospital and a nursing-care facility trying to recover. I told him about how somebody was trying to search for him on the internet, but I think his memory is really fading. Now that I know your name, the next time I see him in a few days, I will mention it to him and see if he remembers you. Hopefully he will.
Two and a half years ago, we had to move my dad into and assisted-care facility and at the same time, sell his house so he could afford the payments. I found several photo albums and at least one of them was devoted to his stay in Guam with many pictures of my family, his navy buddies, and other photos.
Over the years, my mother had always promised she would take each one of us back to our places-of-birth. Maryland for my oldest brother, Rob, Kansas for my second oldest brother, Dave, Port Hueneme for my younger sister, Jan (PH is only 10 miles from Ventura - didn't have to go far for that visit). And Guam for me! That one was always a little far-fetched to travel that far. Well, three years ago, my mother said, "Let's Go"!!! We flew 11 hours to Tokyo and then another 3 to Guam and finally made it. That was one hellacious trip. My mom is a trooper though for sticking that trip out at her age (82 at the time). We only spent parts of 3 days there. But we were able to drive around the entire island (not very big, though) and see most of what we wanted to see. My mom wanted to take me to the old hospital, but we think it was torn down sometime ago. We did get to go to the old Navy housing. It's hard to believe the housing still exists even though it's been abandoned for years. In fact, the old Air Station has been torn down, including the Quonset Huts. The old runway is still there with weeds growing between the cracks. In its place is now the Guam International Airport. I don't know if you're aware of the changes to Guam, but it is now a famous place for Japanese to come and vacation, honeymoon, etc... Unbelievably, though, we were able to find the exact house that we used to live in. If you give me your email address, I would be happy to send you some photos I took of our 3 day trip to Guam and of the base housing. According to my mom, it actually looks about the same some 45 years later! Isn't that amazing? Most if not all of the housing is still intact, but just abandoned. There was talk of bulldozing all of the housing. I don't know if that's happened since my trip there.
From what used to be a little unknown island in the middle of the Pacific, Guam actually has signal lights and multi-lane highways now, if you can believe it! I know my mom couldn't!!!
I hope I hear back from you, Larry. If you'd like to contact me personally without the use of this website, my email address is doug@newlee.net
Hope to hear from you soon!
Regards,
Doug Newlee
