Air Force Reserve IMA's dont deploy (as a general rule) They are utilized for 'at home' deployments to supplement or fill-in for active duty personnel who deploy or when low-manning levels persist.

IMA's are structured under the Air Force Reserve Command however they are assigned to an active duty unit (as a general rule) and are on their manning rosters.

They are required to do 12-days of inactive duty (IDT) training and 2-weeks of annual tour (AT) per year. This is flexible and can be done any time during their retention/retirment year and the fiscal year.

Because IMA's arent often get mobilized for long periods of time (maximum 179 days and waivered for longer) the family stressors are minimal. Those who opt to deploy, (far and few between opportunities) their families are serviced by the nearest base (any branch)

IMA's are allowed to deploy if the funding is available and need it evident.

AFRC Fact Shee IMA Training Program

The IMA training program is made up of approximately 13,144 individual mobilization augmentees. IMAs are assigned to active-duty units in specific wartime positions and train on an individual basis. Their mission is to augment active-duty manning by filling wartime surge requirements. IMAs were used extensively during operations Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom and can be found in nearly every career field.
