Little bit of background. My DH is an E6 in the navy with 16yrs under his belt. He got picked up to do IA from a ship. Whose brilliant idea was it to leave active duty navy personeel going IA attached to their previous command? His ship now handles his pay/his personeel probelms/and yes his leave WTF. He has to submit a leave chit to his ship to go on 8 days leave between his training and Kuwait. Not to mention we have already had a pay problem and if you think getting something like that fixed is hard try to imagine being half a world away from those who need to fix it. I cant imagine who thought this was a good idea. Just frusterated because for the better part of 16yrs I have been able to be the silent partner as far as his command is concerned. Now I have a sinking feeling if problems arise "I" will be taking care of them cause he cant /sigh. /rant off
because it was easier to have the PDS continue to handle that stuff rather than try and get the Deployment command( ie the ARMY) to do it.
hey they even toyed with the idea that San Diego or Norfolk handle ALL IA/GSAs en masse and that was even WORSE.
I am four months into an IA.. Family Sep still hasn't kicked in yet. took 3 months for the travel claims for San Diego, Charleston AND Tampa to be filed and paid. Had to fork out over $2 grand out of pocket to the Travel card. about the only thing that I have seen filed promptly is the per diem that he does monthly...
this is where you bug the ombudsman to gently nudge the CMC and get them to do their job.
While he is IA, he can and most likely will, go back to the command he was with before he went. So because he has not checked out of that command they need to maintain his paperwork. While the paperwork can be messed up and difficult to weed through it can happen during deployment just as easily (happened to many friends) and take months to clean up. It might not just necessarily be with the command itself it can be with the Personnel Department.
Acually with the way our luck works he will make E7 while in Kuwait (which is good) and his family wont get to see him pinned (which is bad). If he does he wont be able to go back to his ship. At least thats the way I understand it. They told him last year if he made chief he would be transfered. But yeah I understand the reasoning behind keeping them attached its just it makes me SUPER nervous dealing with his command. I've already had to deal with the PS1 once over our travel claim that had been filed since Jan. lol turns out he put the money in the wrong account. So I dont think he likes me too much now :P Its going to be a long year
DH pinned on O4 the first of this month. First time I wasn't there to do the honors . and even if yours does make the jump to Khakidom, he'll still have to return to the ship before he can be given new orders.
The PS1 might not have been the person who put in the wrong bank account information, if this was an account that was used previously as the main account and at one time special pay (ie travel) went into it then it could mean that the account wasn't deleted off of every option for pay. It could have been something that happened years ago not now.
Next time you see him, take some coffee or cookies or something like that. A little thing like that along with a smile can make a world of difference in how quickly something gets handled.
lol when I said wrong account I meant he put it in ENS Mfor PERSEC reasons pelase do not use names's account instead of GSE1's account :P It was his screw up and he admitted it. We both have USAA accounts and he didnt check all his numbers. I wasnt mean or anything its just $4700 is alot to be missing for 4 months and if I wouldnt of said anything he never would of knew lol. Obviously the ENS wasnt the least bit concerned she got an extra big chunck of change either!

When he makes chief he probably will be transferred. It doesn't always happen but quite often does. There is a huge division between first class and chief. The Navy feels the best way for a new chief to get a good start is to put him in a new command where he comes in as a chief. A first class is still one of the guys but a chief is in that other realm. The same thing happens when someone gets commissioned or if the reverse happens. If an LDO reverts to enlisted or a chief gets busted then they usually will be transferred out.
Same here. 5 months into IA-FSA still hasn't kicked in, perdiem finally fixed/payed in March. Paperwork lost again and again. "We" have almost 17 yrs in-several deployments- but our first IA and it sure has been a new experience lol. Those things are pretty normal but you still can't help but hope that 'this' deployment might come off without a hitch (at least pay wise). It would be nice if there was a little more out there for IA spouses/families especially if you're at a small "shore" command. I feel kind of in limbo I guess. Besides the automated phone call there's no sense of connection. Oh my I think I'm having a down day today. Time to get off and go do something productive.

I disagree. All the PS1 had to do was check and verify the "LH" line on the member's MMPA.
