In that case, I'm heading to Iraq shortly for a Field Maintenance Vehicle Mechanic Billet. I should have mentioned it earlyer.

Mahalo means thank you.

The billet is for sailors that have a Diesel NEC. There is alist of multiple NEC's on the IA request letter I have a copy of.

Basically the sailor will be attached to an Army unit. WIll get Army combat training and Field Maintenance Vehicle Mechanic training as well.

I'm thinking a possibility that the duty will be working on a FOB (Foward Operating Base) in a motorpool, doing convoys, and security. Not sure on it, but thats what I've heard from asking other folks. I'm sure somebody on here can give better insight.

Cool....I saw it on a van the other day and couldn't remember what that word meant. Smile

I think you're right about the Billet....which is cool because you'll get some serious combat training!! Big Grin My love is a 63B (wheeled mechanic) and did all that stuff while deployed....he changed a LOT of air filters and oil pans cuz of all the sand and grit there. I think he also helped with some up-armor projects as well, and general maintenance. Pretty monotonous(sp?) stuff really.
Convoy and security is a different ballgame though....you truly gotta watch your six on that gig. I got a husband&wife team in this Unit that are both Purple Heart recipients and varied degrees of PTSD for both of them. Fantastic people, didn't deserve this kind of crap--wife's more jacked up than husband is.

But my love adores his job--it's constant learning for him. He's an intelligent man, needs to keep his brain occupied you know? Wink
I'll be fun---get a tan. Wink Big Grin

Was your husband an EN in the navy? Just curious because i am an EN and my sponsor has told me i will most likely be working with army mechs doing garage work and saying "it will really depend on where you go" most of the time. So i am wondering if maybe i will be doing something similar to the convoy/security detail stuff.

Thank you
