First of all, I have really enjoyed reading about some of the tricks that are pulled on new officers and some of the wierd traditions.

I'm a female prior service looking to get into the Army as an officer. I'm researching branches and though at first, this one did not spark my interest, I've liked the attitude that comes across from those that post here. I keep coming back to read more and ADA has moved up on my list. That being said, I was hoping for some info on female officers for this branch. Are there many? Are they getting deployed? (I ask because I want to deploy, not because I want to get out it)

Thanks for the help!

I'm prior service also, then active army, now reserves. When I was on active, we had a couple female officers in my battery. One was in charge of our Support Platoon and didn't think she had to do anything and always had an excuse to get out of going to the field for training and other things. The other was in charge of our Fire Control Platoon and she loved every bit of it.

But they are only in Pat, not Advenger or Stinger.

Actually, that is no longer true. Since they took all the SHORAD out of the Divisions, they have opened it up to women. I don't think there are very many there yet though.

In the active force there are 2 Avenger Battalions (5-5 and 2-44). Also, several of the Patriot Battalions (5 or 6 I think) have 4 Patriot Batteries and 1 Avenger Battery each.

The National Guard has 7 Avenger/Stinger (MANPADS) Battalions.

I think the current plan is to eventually replace all the Avengers with a mix of SLAMRAAM and C-RAM.

ADA made a mistake of getting rid of the M72 weapon system and the M163, they were the tops in SHORAD. JMHO.

As an old M163 Platoon Leader, I agree with you on that point.

Here is ho I rate Officers..

West Point_ brain wash- think they know evey thing..But don't. had one who thought he was above Bn reg. Failed to follow BnCdr order to remain on post once the duty day beagin, After Pt went home to SSC... for got that he had to have his platoon out in the filed. turn the short cut back to base..end up maing it with a 5t track/trailer... DOA.

ROTC- can train them to use their heads.

OCS- very easy, aslong as then are grom by HQ-PLT first before then end up as a line PLT-ldr.

WOs.. if they were Nike Warrents.. the are ok. C/V Warrents= over paid E-7 who could make it.
have know 1 to get fired back in Bliss.
( if they were grown throue ADA no probblem, but tranfered frow out-side ADA= trouble.) JMHO.

Thanks for giving me that OK rating Mig altho I can recall at least 2 West Pointers that I thought were top notch..eager to learn, meaning they didnt think they already knew it all.

I can also say I have served under some great ROTC guys, and unfortunatly, I have to say I have served with some terrible officers from all sources...But dont you think the bad ones get filtered out and leave the best?
