EL PASO -- Fort Bliss air defense soldiers are returning this week from the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain after a 12-month deployment.
About 500 soldiers in two Patriot missile batteries with the 5th Battalion, 52nd Air Defense Artillery are arriving in two flights, the last of which is expected Friday. The units' command group was scheduled to land Wednesday night at Biggs Army Airfield.
While deployed, the air defenders provided protection from missile attack and participated in training exercises with soldiers from other nations.
The unit is part of Fort Bliss' 11th Air Defense Artillery Brigade.
