Chief of ADA Offers Green to Gold Hip Pocket Scholarships for ADA Enlisted Soldiers

Scholarships pay full tuition and include monthly cost of living allowances

On behalf of the Air Defense Artillery Branch, Maj. Gen. Howard B. Bromberg, the Chief of Air Defense Artillery, has been authorized to award three (two-, three- or four-year) Army ROTC Green to Gold Hip Pocket Scholarships for the Spring 2009 academic year. These scholarships pay full tuition, as well as $900.00 per year for books and supplies. Scholarship recipients also receive monthly stipends of up to $450.00 per month, depending on their academic status, for up to 10 months per year.

“ADA leaders and commanders should give this opportunity the widest possible dissemination and take a personal interest in ensuring qualified, interested Soldiers have the opportunity to compete for one of these scholarships,” said Bromberg. "Green to Gold remains one of the best ways to grow our ADA Officers Corps. It optimizes the skills and talents of our best active duty Soldiers, provides them an opportunity for a college education, and brings them back to ADA as Commissioned Officers,” he continued. “This program provides Soldiers the opportunity to complete their baccalaureate degree while pursuing a commission through the Army ROTC Program.”

Deadline to submit application packets for the chief of branch’s review/selection is not later than 15 August 2008. Commanders should encourage interested Soldiers to begin the application as quickly as possible—the packet is extensive and approval hinges on interested Soldiers already being accepted into an accredited university and having a letter of acceptance from the resident Professor of Military Science.

Authority to award Division Commander's Hip Pocket Scholarships has been extended to chiefs of branch. The Air Defense Artillery point of contact for Hip Pocket Scholarships is MSG Fernando Crichlow. Submit your nominations packets for the ADA Chief of Branch's Hip Pocket Scholarship Awards to MSG Crichlow rather than addresses specified in Green to Gold guides listed below.
