I don't know if this is new at all, but the arrogance of the Air Force to unilaterally stop using base stickers was another stupid move. Yes, I said stupid, but that's another story. In the Washington area, we are treated like aliens trying to get on other services' installation, with car searches, long looks at our ID cards as if they are forgeries, etc. But then, the AF can't even pick a good uniform for goodness sakes, and continue to train our troops as if all we are going to do in war theaters is sit on bases and hope the Marines or the Army are going to protect us. Alas.
Long Retired (and glad of it). |

I thought they brought back the base decals.

The use of base stickers is an antiquated process. There are now 100% ID checks at every base. No need to use base stickers and it saves the military $$$. Most bases still do random vehicle checks. I am not sure what your problem with this change in process is?

I guess as a AF medic you are also a SME on AT/FP issues. There was a valid reason for base stickers, but the PC AF did away with them. |

For your information I have attend a FP level two training to enhance my awareness and skills. Don't hold my AFSC against me.
Thank you!

So what you got Level II training, big deal. You are not a SME on the subject and don't apply the principles on a day to day basis. So you really don't know AT/FP For your information the DD FM 2220 was used as a tracking tool for (who owns the vehicle, unit of assignment, etc..) It also cut down unwanted access and monitored vehicle registstration. You knew who owned the vehicle and where to look for them if they needed to be contacted. This message has been edited. Cutting down on unwanted access is accomplished by a 100% ID check. What does monitoring vehicle registration accomplish? Many cars were sold with old stickers on them. I can understand the need to be able to contact an owner of a vehicle in extreme circumstances. I can see that as a small benefit. The overall benefit would be to continue with the no sticker policy. Old school thinking vs new school thinking is what this boils down to.

Never mind, you don't get it. It's best you stay in your lane on this one and stick to what you know. |

So I'm still confused. Is the AF back to issuing the decal?
Reason I ask is I still see them with expiration dates of 2010. These are AF decals. I know the other services are still using them. Personally I like the idea of not using them and stopping to show the ID. Good to have a chat with the folks at the gate and the pups love saying Hi too! By the way, I never met someone at the gate that didn't like a dog or when we bring a plate of homemade goodies. They have a job to do and we don't need to make it any harder for them. |

I can understand "4Nafmedic" position. Here in the DC area two Army posts require stickers but even they have inconsistent policies. One does a vehicle inspection & the other one just makes you go through a certain gate & the just checks your ID.
What is the benefit? My retired ID card & current DoD ID should suffice that I am allowed on base. One reason the Air Force canceled the base sticker program is that (1) I heard it cost around a million dollars a year (2) people sell their cars & never take off the sticker & (3) they were always out of stock & on back order. |

Stickers are gay..period. They also highlight the fact that you are in the military...not always good.

I guess the wearing the uniform and the military style haircut is no indicator. |

Cabo..
I do not wear my uniform if I drive on vacation. You might...I don't. As for my "military" style haircut. I am not sure if you have noticed but long hair is sort of out these days in favor for short "military" style haircuts. Also, I am NOT AD so I do not wear a high and tight or some other typical AD hair style. Mine is in regs...but less likely so than an AD would consider...but it IS in regs. Reach... I meant the base decals. Relax gunslinger. As for your other sticker...I know one place your pickup will not roll over a Prius is..at the pump. He will be down the road while you are working on financing your latest full purchase. |

Wabo..
One more thing, I do not live in my car so sometimes my car is sitting somewhere without me in it. But a decal will tell some passerby that I am more than likely in the service or have some sort of affiliation with a base. |

Well thanks for the compliment webfoot. I pride myself in my firearm collection and the training I perform for the NRA. As for the financing of the pickup truck, paid for in cash, and diesel is paid for in cash. This guy had a smart financial planner in 74 and it's still paying off. |

Jungle, Wow, talk about being a smart azz. I added a extra comment and you get anal, oh well. You missed the point about decals, but hey no skin off my teeth. OPSEC, a lesson some need to study more on these days. Reach, Do you know where I can get one of those stickers for my Excursion? I would sport one of thoses. Ha! Ha! |

Yes, seriously. Most AF personnel have no concept on how to apply it. Comments on this thread prove my point, I'll leave it at that. |
